Alaska - Weather predictions for first week of June 2007?
Looking forward to my trip to Alaska, arriving July 3rd and staying a week. Can anyone offer their two cents on what the weather will be? Yea I know, I have a week, but can't help but be excited, and wonder if the weather will be good. Granted, I know Alaska is not known as a "sunny" destination, and variable weather can be expected, and perhaps alot of rain. I've been watching the weather channel online and it seems your summer so far has been sunny and dry. I'd like to hope this trend continues, but realize it could all change when I arrive. Right now, the weather channel predicts rain, but as of todays date, that's still too far away to be accurate. They can't even get my own weather right on a day by day basis. I am from Ohio, it's been hot, and extremely dry. My lawn is all brown, and this is very ususual for June. Just wondering if Alaska is experiencing a dry weather pattern too, and what are the chances of sun the first week of July. Oh well, even if it rains, I'll still have a great trip. Thanks
Oops, I meant the first week of JULY.

May I suggest that you reread the title of your post. The first week of JUNE is long gone. I believe you meant July.
In any case Alaska is a huge state. You need to explain where you are going to visit before anyone can give you an answer to your question.

Yes, you are correct, I am interested in JULY, sorry about that, and thanks for noticing to correct.
We'll be arriving in Anchorage, visiting Seward, Homer, and Talkeetna. We're expecting the likely possibility of rain, but hoping for sun. Alaska is such a wonderful land, clear days will better reveal it's beauty. But, if it rains, then that's the way it goes.

I'm heading to Anchorage Saturday with a Kenai Fjords small boat trip planned for Monday. I tend to use noaa.gov for weather - but I am sure it is still too far out to be sure what will happen.
http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?zoneid=AKZ101 Be sure to search on Seward or other locations you will be in as it will vary by location.
You can also get the marine forecast. http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/marfcst.php

Same NOAA data but in a much nicer format and on a prettier page is available directly from the Anchorage NWS office: http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov (also has highs/lows, sunrise/sunset, and other interesting data in pretty graphs).
Not sure where you've heard that we've had a sunny and dry summer--this one has been horrible and seemed like it's rained all except about four days (two last week and two the week before). Two summers ago we had nothing but sun and 80° for three months, but last summer and this summer has been pretty bad.
Hopefully, things will clear up here and stay cleared up soon. Usually, mid-May to mid-July is the sunniest weather, and once the middle of July rolls around, we start seeing clouds and sprinkles. By the time the State Fair comes around at the beginning/middle of August, we're into fall and the ground is muddy and leaves are off the [deciduous] trees.
All that is to say that in normal circumstances, the first week of July would be fine. But again, this year has been wetter than most, so don't expect too much in the way of sun worshiping.
Seward, being a coastal town in between mountains, tends to get more rain than the drier, inland areas like Talkeetna. Hopefully, your days in Talkeetna will be sunny and crystal clear so that you have a chance of seeing The Mountain, also known as Mt. McKinley. But don't feel too bad if you don't, because it's only out 20% of the time...come back in a year or two when the weather warms up again and try again! :)
Cheers and happy travels,
Jackal
