Hello guys, I have a question. I am flying to Manila in September, usually with Cathay and I will fly it again next monday LAX-BKK and in Novenmber JFK-HKT.I was thinking on using ASIANA.I am also UAL FF so I will get miles. The $ difference is about $300 but I do not care. Any of you has flown ASIANA?

I think it is best to ask our neighbours in Asiana Club Forum... They should be the experts on this airline... :p

Do you intend to fly in F/J/Y? On the B747 of Asiana, there is no PTV in Y class and the J seats are quite bad. On the B777, all have PTV and some have AVOD. There are 3 different configs of J seats on the 7 B777 they have. The A330 has AVOD and lie flat J seats, but the A330 only does intra-asian flying. The B767 also has poor J seats and no PTV in Y class. So if you want PTV, check the aircraft operating the route or else fly CX. Service on Asiana is great though.

I have flown multiple times on Asiana and Cathay. In both Business and First I find Cathay has an edge. Asiana's FC service is excellent - but CX still has an edge. Connectionsf rom LAX to Manila via HKG are much better (timewise) and frequent, but Inchon is a very good airport. Nothing beats the business or FC sections of the HKG Cathay lounges. The Asiana lounge at ICN is quite good though.

I have flown in J on Asiana from MNL and must say I prefer CX -- maybe I was unlucky but the Regional J Cabin seemed dated

Assuming you're flying out of LAX you'll be on a 777 which are comfortable(although some routes have AVOD others don't). New York is the infamous 747 which has very old seats. Service is second to none no matter what (better than Cathay). Maybe see this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=701202). Connecting flight to Manila is an A321 which I've never flown on with OZ but will do so next month.

FWIW, OZ lounges at ICN are very nice.

As mentioned the 747 in C is awfull, F has great service but outdated 1980's seats and video.
The 777 service is good. A couple of them have lie-flat seats (3 or 4?) and the others have cradle style seats which are not too bad.

OZ could be a great airline if they upgraded all of their seats so there is no more lottery for pax. (I guess it is coming but how fast ??)
