Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer - some questions
I have some Star Alliance miles to use up and am taking a trip to the far east. As part of this, I want to go from BKK to SIN by train and return by air. My *A miles let me go in First on SQ from SIN to BKK and I am interested in the flight SQ976 at 1410 on a weekday. Does anyone know whether (a) I could use the SKL First Class and (b) whether there is a meal service on the flight. The flight looks to be in a 747-400. With lounge and some First class catering, it would be a memorable experience. But if it is just a sit in a big seat for a couple of hours, it might not be the best value for my miles. Any advice or tips would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Mr H,
You do get to use the FCL, and can use the kerbside F class checkin service. However if I were you, J class would suffice for this 2h15min flight. There is a full meal on this sector and do use book the cook. Some advise for the BKK-SIN train sector, are you going on the E&O express or just KTM. If you are going on KTM, be sure to book the first class cabin, where you get one whole cabin to your self for a rather inexpensive price. And just a warning, the food on KTM is terrible.
Thanks dfs. I will probably deal with the trains nearer the time. I'm half thinking of going on the jungle line down the east coast of Malaysia - although a Malaysian colleague has advised me in strong terms not to do this as she thinks it might be dangerous. The west coast line would let me stop at LK and Penang so it is probably what I'll end up doing - in as much comfort as possible!
Mr H,
The jungle line on the east coast is actually quite. Just that it is more prone to disruptions due to the wetter weather on the east. If you go in Dec, expect more severe delays on the train line compared to the usual delays happening year round. Whatever it is, if you need help with the trains from BKK to SIN, just PM and I'll try to help if possible.
