American Express Membership Rewards - Cancel Amex Delta, switch to Starwood for 2nd bonus

Since this is a cross between Delta and Starwood I thought I'd post it here.

My Amex Delta Gold fee free year is up and the $85 fee is due next month, so I called Amex to cancel and was offered first a $45 credit to stay. I declined.
They then offered to switch me to a Starwood card with annual fee waived for a year and 10K bonus 'wood points. I pointed out to the CSR that I already had one and she assured me that since she was making the offer, I would get the 10K bonus even though I already got it from my other card.

I guess I'll find out in a month or so if she's right. No downside for me since there's no fee.

It may be a cross between Delta and Starwood, but it's all American Express :D

If nobody has told you yet, welcome to Flyertalk!

I'll go ahead and move this to the Amex forum.

Hey there!!

You don't need an offer in order to get the 10K *points, you can actually churn those cards!!

Good luck!

I got 20K Starwood points when I switched from Delta to Starwood AMEX. I got the 10K welcome points + 10K bonus points from a supervisor for "all the trouble" I went through. :D

my understanding was that churning worked for United, still works for AA, but never (reliably) worked for starwoods... Do folks have other experiences?

Has anybody had any success churning Amex Starwood cards? I think its pretty hard to churn Amex cards (issued by Amex). Here are the T&C's for the Starwood Preferred Guest (personal) card. Yeah another 10K from business card is possible. But can one churn? Anybody?

T&C..:-
1) To be eligible to receive 10,000 bonus Starpoints, you must make your first purchase with the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card within one year of Card approval. Bonus points will appear on your Starwood Preferred Guest statement 8-12 weeks after your first purchase. Bonus Starpoints are for first-time Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cardmembers only. Bonus Starpoints can only be received once per Cardmember, regardless of the number of Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card accounts the Cardmember may have or had.

I have applied and received 15 AX cards. To the best of my knowledge, it is very difficult to churn AX cards. AX will not give you the same card product bonus twice.

AX will do the following.

1. Approve you for multiple different AX card products and give you bonus points.

2. Approve you for multiple AX cards of the same product BUT will not give you the same bonus. The caveat is -- If the first card had a 10,000 point bonus and the second card had a 25,000 point bonus, AX will give you 15,000 for the same card since you only got 10,000 points the first time.

My advise on AX is to apply for multiple different card products and collect the bonus points on each card.

As I know starwood account from American Express has also various hotel rewards. You may also try Hilton platinium Credit card
You get 10,000 HHonors bonus points after your just 1st shopping on the Card and 15000 points after you wasted 5000$ in 5 months. Not so bad!
