Other Middle East and Africa Frequent Flyer Programs - South African Advanced Seat Assignments for *G

I've got an economy flight coming up from FRA-JNB and I really want to make sure that I don't get the middle seats in the very back. Is it possible to call SAA in advance to request them to input my UA star gold card number and then request a better seat...maybe even an exit row? I'd appreciate hearing about any experiences with this.

SA seem pretty good at advance seat assignments. If you call their local office, you'll probably find that they'll do your exact seat assignments now, regardless of *G status. I don't know whether they'll go so far as to allocate exit row seats though.

I've never had a problem with SAA pre assigning seats (even with no status they will do this) - not even been a problem if it's an award booking though a different airline.

They won't pre allocate exit row seats though (does any airline? I thought they weren't allowed to pre allocate exit rows because they had to verify the passengers physical capabilites).

But of course seat requests are not guaranteed so still be sure to check in as early as possible (I've certainly been reallocated somebody else's seats in the past when I've checked in early!!)
