Hello all.

I am on an Asiana flight in C from Seattle. It's a Thursday flight, which I believe is seasonal, and has some different characteristics from their usual SEA flight. For example it is still #271 but leaves an hour later.

I'm trying to determine whether the fact that the Thursday flight is seasonal is likely to mean that they use an old 777, and if so, exactly what that is likely to mean in terms of the C seat.

I called Asiana but it was after hours and so I spoke with someone in Korea who didn't speak English that well. I believe she told me that the biz class has 35 seats on that day, which I take to mean it's "old style". Is that the case? I see some other posts on here where people were seeing a 35-seat seat map but wound up actually flying with the new seats.

Does "old style" on a 777 mean a 135-degree recliner? I remember flying on Asiana from SEA around 12 years ago in C on a 747 and the seat didn't even have a foot rest. It couldn't still be *that* horrible, could it?

Thanks!

If there are 35 J seats, it definitely is old one. There can be some mistakes on the website (show 35 seats but may not 35) but the employee would be correct. When do you take that flight? I thought new one will be on Thursday flight from July. In June, Asiana take one of SYD flight to SEA, so it will be old one.

Also, the old one is 135-degree recliner, right. But (I think) it will be better than 747 ones - somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

i am considering taking the Thursday SEA-ICN flight in C class in mid-July, so I would also be interested in knowing what types of seats are on the aircraft. Also, can someone confirm that the seating configuration is 2-3-2 on all OZ's 777s? Thanks.

Yes, it is 2-3-2 regardless of new or old seats on OZ's 777. To confirm if it is new or not, call them and ask the number of J seats. 35:old and PTV. 28:new but PTV. 32: new and AVOD. Other than Thursday, new one with 32 J seats is running on SEA-ICN. Not sure on Thu.

Thanks for the replies folks. I did some more research, including talking to the people in the Seattle sales office. They confirmed that the Thursday flight is using the older configuration, and I am now convinced of it.

Bummer.

Sooo... if you are considering Asiana from SEA, avoid the Thursday flight outbound. I'm guessing there's also an inbound flight to avoid, but I'm not sure which one (probably the one with a slightly different schedule than the other 3 flights during a week).

On a separate note... I only have a 1:20 connection time in Seoul (on to Hong Kong). I recall the new airport to be very friendly and efficient for connections; do I have anything to be concerned about? If the connection gets real close due to a delay, does Asiana have a habit of holding flights for connecting passengers? I've witnessed that happen several times when flying on EVA and China Airlines; there are usually a lot of passengers flying on to Bangkok, etc from Taipei, and they seem to make an effort to ensure that things run smoothly in Taipei for such passengers. Is Asiana the same?

Thanks!

Same. From ICN is also Thursday.

As I remember, Korean air and Asiana delay a lot due to connecting passengers (which makes a little bit annoying to the people like me, start from ICN.) If the delaying is not that serious, they will wait for you. Enjoy your flight!!

I'm surprised it's only 135 deg- it seems more.
By contrast to the 747, the "old seat" on 777 is electric, and has a decent legrest and foot rest. I find the "sleep" setting very relaxing, and fine for sleeping (and nearly as good as the cocoon seats because of no slide gently to floor). The only downside to me is that the seat in front reclines towards you- which of course is not apparent with cocoon.

hi, i just took this flight on June 14. It was new config with lie flat and PTV, no AVOD. Was a very comfortable ride with attentive service. ^

Well, on June 28 it was an old 777 with recliners. Actually, we found the seat pretty comfortable -- I agree with a previous poster that it seems like more than 135 degrees. The bottom cushion was pretty hard but otherwise the electric controls and excellent service made the trip enjoyable enough.

The onward flight to HK was on a 330 and had the new biz class. The angled lie-flat thing takes a bit of getting used to but is conducive to sleeping and I am looking forward to returning to Seattle on a 777 with the new biz class.

Asiana has the best food I have ever had on any airline.

Just completed the return to SEA and here's a bit more info on ICN-SEA service.

From HK to ICN we flew on a new 777 with AVOD and new seats. I believe it was HL7739.

From ICN to SEA we also flew on a new 777 with AVOD and new seats. It was HL7742. Unfortunately the in-seat power is not working on that aircraft -- is there some maintenance challenge with in-seat power systems? Feels like half the time I fly on a plane with them, they're not working.

BTW the power is a full 110V AC outlet that sits flush so you can plug any manner of brick into it.

Regardless of the in-seat power not working on the one leg, the experience was wonderful. Great food and attentive service. At one point I asked a FA where the toilet was and she was falling over herself offering to ensure it was clean before I entered it, etc.

Also excellent food.

Great food and attentive service.

Sounds like the typical Asiana experience!

Sorry you had to suffer the recliner on your outward journey. I like Asiana's in-seat power -- one of the few in-seat outlets that you can plug an Ipod into.
