I got one of this check, but the associated credit card is already closed. If I deposit it anyway, what would happen?
They sent the check long after I closed the account, therefore, chase is responsible?

I would totally deposit it. What's the worst that happens? It bounces? If it clears, I don't think you'll need to call to cancel the service.
It bounces?
...and curious_miles's bank will likely charge a fee, probably greater than the value of the check. Also, just because a credit card account is "closed" don't delude yourself into thinking that you are not responsible for authorized transactions.

If you know that account is closed why would you even consider putting it in you bank.. Return check fee.
Makes no sense to me
IME, the check will still clear, and you'll get a letter that says you cannot enroll a closed account in Payment Protector. Nothing to worry about. Enjoy the $20. :)
This is specific to the payment protector incentive checks. It should go without saying that a balance transfer or convenience check should not be drawn on a closed account.

I'm not sure about this. Don't they sometimes re-open accounts if any charges are made against them post-closure?

That's exactly what I would expect to happen.

But it's not a charge against the account. It's $20 for signing up for payment protector.
I'm depositing another one tomorrow, This will be 5 checks for the year. $100 plus the $250 cash bonus for the freedom card, $350 off chase this year. The only thing I've paid them this year is less than $10 for a short term low rate balance transfer. Gotta love chase.

I am glad this has worked for you. Your experience trumps my thinking for sure. I hope there are no negative consequences for you and that all goes well.

Deposit it! I got 4 of them on accounts Chase closed a month before bc of my apporama. I deposited them anyway-- no problem. Got 4 letters in the mail later that said I couldn't be enrolled. I didn't want to be enrolled anyway...But I still got the $80.

Thanks, doejohn! I've been staring at one of those $20 babies sent to me after I closed the account, for a couple of days now, wondering what to do.
Into the bank it goes!
Thanks for everything, doejohn! For any of us who don't realize it, doejohn is the poster that brought the Chase Freedom $250 signup bonus and links to all of our attention on FlyerTalk!
