View Full Version : Should We Add An Italy Forum?

This (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=704094) thread is currently discussing changing the Paris forum to France.

There has been an additional request to add an Italy forum and I personally favor that addition.

Plus I think we need to re-order the European forums but we can wait to discuss that if and when it is decided to add an Italy forum and change the Paris forum to France.

Please weigh in here, pro or con, if you are in favor of a separate Italy forum.

Thanks.

I all in for an Italy forum. But I don't think we need more re-order in the European forums. The remaining countries don't generate enough traffic for a single forum. The rest of europe should remain what it is. the best place for Schengen Visa questions, questions about european rail travel, Greece, Prague and Switzerland. (just to name a few successful threads we had recently)

And I speak not only as a member, but also as the moderator of the europe forum. But Italy sounds like a very good idea and that forum should be a success.

chrissxb,
Totally agree that a forum to cover Italy is a good idea. ^

OT - enjoyed meeting you, richelieu and AF680 in Strabourg. Thx.

But I don't think we need more re-order in the European forums.

By re-order, I mean that we need to organize them properly.

Right now it looks like this:

U.K. and Ireland

London

Germany

Europe (Eastern/Western)

Paris

I suggest we drop London as it's already listed as a subforum under UK and Ireland.

And then we list France, Germany and Italy and then, finally, Europe (Eastern/Western) as a catchall for the other European countries.

Gee! I think this sounds like an astounding idea! (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=614555)

Maybe it all depends who brings up the idea. :p:p

Kind of reminds me of the prisoner/joke book story.

Seems there were these lifers in a cellblock and all they had to read was the same dog-eared joke book that they passed from cell to cell.

And they told the same jokes so often they got to know the jokes by their number.

Late at night, one of the regulars would holler "Number 13!!" and it would be followed by raucous laughter. Later you'd hear "Number 71!!" and that would be followed by hysterical laughter and clapping. And so on.

A newbie is brought into the cellblock and after a while, he too wants to tell the jokes. Late at night he hollers "Number 38!!".

Nothing but dead silence.

So he hollers "Number 55!!". Not a sound.

In frustration he turns to his cellmate and asks what's happening.

The cellmate said "I guess some people just know how to tell a joke and some don't".

And that's the lame-o joke for the day. :o

They are both being discussed now on the private TalkBoard Forum. I don't think that my feelings about them will come as a surprise to anyone, but it would be good to hear from other FlyerTalkers on both issues.

Both the proposed Alitalia and Italy forums have been moved and seconded. Voting has not yet started on them, so in the immortal words of Dino Paul Crocetti (also known as Dean Martin), "keep those cards and letters coming in, folks."

Ok for ITaly forum-

About AZ Forum, I would wait the end of the summer... the bidding for AZ has not yet completed and it has to be proofed AZ will survive. It's a great idea but it would be horrible to launch a forum and then to shut down it due to this reason.

My POV of course.
Cheers

Luca, you know even better than I do how unpredictable anything is in Italy -- and this is doubly true when it comes to Alitalia.

For the past five years, at a minimum, Alitalia has been on the border of bankruptcy. Everyone was afraid that it would be shut down at any time (and it was only the repeated injections of money from the Italian government which saved it).

True, the government said last time that there would be no further aid to AZ -- but it also said that each time before.

Where will AZ be at the end of summer? It could be shut completely. It could be bought out by another airline. It could be saved again by the government. Nobody knows.

Moreover, there is a very good chance that at the end of summer we will be wondering what the situation will be with AZ by January 1.

If there are major changes ahead for AZ, an Alitalia Forum will be very active during that period. If AZ goes under, and we have to shut down the forum, it will not be the end of the world -- and it will have served a very good purpose during the period leading up to the closing.

I agree that this is yet another good reason to create the forum.

Plus it's not like we're building something...a forum can be created or shut down with just a few keystrokes.

I've often wondered why Germany rated its own forum, while Italy got lumped into the generic Europe (Eastern/Western) forum.

I vote for a separate Italy forum. ^

Ditto! After scratching around trying to find info on Italy via searches or by scanning through the Europe posts til bleary-eyed, I'm delighted with this idea.
