MilesBuzz! - Are there a lot of million mile flyers out there

I have heard that there were only 25 people on United that had achieved this level. Seems like there would be a lot more. Also do you get a special type of card if you get to that amount of miles. Thanks for any imput.

Welcome to Flyertalk. I believe there is more than 25 UA MM flyers. I do not think the card is anything special. You might scroll down and check the UA board out. There are a number of threads covering this subject.

I bet the Flyertalk UA Forum alone has more than 25 current MM'ers. UA counts ONLY flown miles on UA, not bonus miles, or class or service bonuses, and not Star Alliance partner miles, and NO third party imput such as credit cards or Hotel point transfers etc.

Other USA airlines have varying ease of acheiving it (AA allows you to count credit card spend into the mix!) and recognition levels or lack of same. The top Qantas flier does about a million paid flown miles a year. I was told NW does not make a big deal of million miles flown, but can't speak with any authority on other USA plans. Others may have much more info to add.

Welcome to Flyertalk. OZ is correct, there are quite a number of United Million Milers on our board. I for one am only 20,000 miles short of it. You will also find plenty of people in our other airline boards who have this number of actual air miles on one carrier (see AA, DL, etc.).

I know several myself at my company personally. So there must be thousands out there. Obviously a lot of flying and dedication to a single carrier. But not impossible over the long run ("only" 200 SFO-JFK round trips would qualify you for this status).

Welcome to FT. I am a Million Miler on United and American. Both programs are different for MM status. UAL MM offers lifetime PE status and MM on American only Gold status. Recognition is usually from older airline employees who appreciate our business over the years.With todays market conditions we really get the business. FWIW not much value and overrated.

I'm with freakflyer, must be thousands. This board is a good proxy but a small subset of the universe of heavy fliers.

Under the UA definition of "Million Miler" I would be one with four carriers and I suspect that there would be thousands of FT'ers as well with that status

i think i'm in the 1.5-2 mm mi's flown w/ butt in the seat.

Asiana airlines gives you a gold plated FF card according to the literature I was sent when I reached the status right below it, Diamond. They also send some kind of gift. I was sent a leather ticket wallet/folder for reaching Diamond. MM is the highest tier on the airline for a lifetime.

I am not an AA flyer but recall reading that AAdvantage issues folks with multi millions with that designation on their card. Is that true? i.e. 2 million miler, 5 million miler etc?

Yes.

Of course AA's definition of 1MM status is 1 million FF miles earned (doesn't matter how many are actually in your account). So, 1MM status is much easier on AA than on UA.

And the benefits are correspondingly scaled down, lifetime first-tier elite and a few upgrade credits, but it's a good talking point.

With 1.7MM AA program miles I probably have about 4-500K flown miles (230,000 from the beginning of 2000 on), which is no great number in this august company, and probably close to a million on all airlines. (I was DL elite, typically mid-level, for 7-8 years before moving to AA.)

I have 7 guys that I've been playing poker with once a month for the past 12 years. 4 of us are Million Milers on Delta. Based on that random sample, 57% of all poker players who live in the Atlanta area are MM's with Delta.

The question/comment about AA is correct. Each time I add another 1MM Aadvantage miles to my lifetime total the corresponding number shows up on my AA Platinum Membership card.

I was once a frequent flyer. (I did over 400,000 miles (not points, miles) in a single year, all domestic.) I met other people who really fly. They aren't just the people on this board. They do exist.
