Hi all -
My husband and I are traveling to Asia this summer and I wanted to get your input on the hotels we are staying at. We still have time to change hotels, so I'm looking for suggestions!
In Hong Kong we are staying at the Conrad - my husband was able to use points for two nights and we are paying one night. What are the chances of being upgraded?
In Singapore we are staying at the Mandarin Oriental - we are paying a rate of about $210/a night before taxes. What's the best hotel there?
In Bali we are staying at the Ritz - we'd love to stay at the Four Seasons but it's too expensive...
Looking forward to some feedback!

A hotly debated topic, try a search in the Luxury Hotels forum. Take your pick of the Raffles, the Fullerton, the Ritz-Carlton, the Shangri-La...
Shangrilai: historically one of the best but old compared to others. They have three wings: tower, garden and valley, each priced successively higher.
Fullerton: grand, new, luxurious, especially if you get the water view.
Raffles - yes very expensive, if you like the old-colonial style.
Ritz-Carlton: no experience.
Conrad in Singapore - I would rate fairly high.
Mandarin oriental - haven't stayed there in years and years, maybe it's renovated but in old days, never considered one of Singapore's top hotels.
Grand Hyatt, especially the front grand club wing/rooms quite nice....but very very busy, lots of traffic in lobby and smack in middle of orchard rd. area.

The Marina View rooms at the Ritz in Singapore are hard to beat!

I think they've done a pretty good job of renovating the Oriental (note, it's not branded as an MO) in Singapore. The lobby and the lower public floors particularly look very good. It's difficult to do much with the appearance of the floors above that because of the atrium style but the rooms are of a good standard. If you have a view out over the water you'll get a bird's eye view of the new casino being constructed which sounds a bit of an eyesore but isn't really. I personally prefer the Fullerton (and I know that there are many around here who don't), but I've been very happy with the Oriental the last couple of times I stayed there recently (and I have another stay coming up in a few weeks).

My favorite hotel in Hong Kong is the Intercontinental (love the view!) and the Four Seasons in Singapore.

The raffles is still my fav hotel in Singapore. The historic side of it, is just pretty amazing.
