in a few months, i stand a good chance of flying 2-3 times per month from the los angeles area to atlanta. what do people feel is the best airline? good FF programs are nice, but i welcome any input like good/bad service or convenience. the vast majority of my trips will be thursday/friday through sunday.

air travel is really the only place i have flexibility. my airline of choice is southwest, but regrettably they don't fly to atlanta and birmingham is too far away to be practical.

thanks in advance!

I'd go with Delta for that one. From my experience, the service is fairly good from LAX to ATL. They offer non-stop flights (4.5-5 hours) with fares ranging anywhere from $400-600, depending on when you book, etc. (Those are estimates of course, actual fares might vary.) You might find cheaper fares on another carrier, if that's your main concern. I'm sure you could get hundreds of opinions on this. It's a matter of what's best for you.

Delta is a Sky Team member and what ever miles you earn will help you receive rewards, upgrades, etc. with other ST partners.

thanks! i had assumed delta would be the most direct, but i wanted to get some local feedback.

You could certainly use NWA, but you'd probably have to connect in one of the hubs, being MEM, MSP or DTW. That would lengthen your trip and might even cost a bit more. You could possibly receive a cheaper fare from Continental, but would have to connect somewhere, probably IAH. I don't know who else you might consider. AA would likely require a connection, too. Another thing to consider: connecting on the other airlines could greatly increase the miles you earn. That's assuming you have a few hours to kill and the patience to deal with a connection.

IMO, Delta is the best bet in this situation, unless you want to go for the miles on another carrier.

Just avoid the Delta red-eye. My wife and I had the misfortune of being stuck on it on a return from Vancouver. Even in First, it was an abomination. Everything that could go wrong did. The microwaves didn't function...it was a full flight and thankfully, my mind has blacked out all the other problems. This on top of the fact that the Crown Club in LA was staffed by the laziest group of non-functioning oxygen wasters it has ever been my misfortune to see working the club. This was made worse by comparing it to the great service we experienced at the Alaska Air club in Vancouver and the equally great service on the Alaska flight to LA in FC.

Yes... exactly why everyone should avoid the red-eye for all perpetuity.
