National - What is with all the PT Cruisers at National???

I have used National a couple times at YYZ and in the Toronto area, and I have to say I am very disappointed. About 50 percent of the cars there are PT Cruisers. All the other cars are either Chevy Cobalts, Dodge Calibers, Chrysler Sebrings, Dodge Magnums, or Dodge Chargers. No Toyotas, Hondas, or Ford vehicles. I use to rent between Hertz and National, but I will no longer use National due to the poor selection of vehicles they have. I guess they have a special deal with Chrysler/Dodge. What are the selections at other airports or cities?
I doubt you'll ever find a lot of Fords, Hondas, or Toyotas at National. I just don't think they have the big huge deals with those companies to buy cars.
But they usually have pretty good selection from the vendors they do buy from. I'm sure every car rental company has deals with certain automakers.

A lot depends on if the location is owned by National or it's a licensee - a franchise. Corporate owned locations generally have the standard GM selection. Licensee locations like PHX & PVD vary. PHX has great cars, PVD has junkyard trash. That's why we love FT. Usually a search or post of an unknown destination can help steer a traveler in the right direction.

I have seen Toyota and many GM cars in most locations. I would try other locations before making that decision.

As I posted on another thread, last week in SEA there were at least 6 Toyota Corollas at SEA on the Aisle -- previously, I never saw any (and I rent there about once a month). Maybe they just get grabbed first (the one I took had lots of miles on it).

For the life of me, I can't understand the fascination with the Toyota Corolla on the Emerald Aisle. Is it the gas mileage? My employer's paying, so I'm less concerned about mileage. Is it comfort? I can't believe a Corolla is more comfortable then say a larger G6, Malibu, Grand Prix or Volvo S40. If I see a Corolla on the EA, I walk pass it to something else (maybe that's good news to the folks that like these compact cars).

Same here. I would much much rather have a loaded Aura or Grand Prix rather than a Corolla. Especially after my Corolla breakdown at Hertz, Im not a fan of these cars at all...

Since I've always owned small cars, I find big cars less comfortable and harder to drive and park. And just because the company is paying for gas doesn't mean we shouldn't be mindful of fuel waste and pollution.

Very good point. However, I believer personal safety is more important. I don't drive small cars. Can't wait to see the H3 on the EE side.

I feel a whole lot safer in a small car than in a rollover death-trap like a top-heavy SUV. SUVs are not required to follow the same safety standards as passenger vehicles, since they are classified as trucks.

That's why America is great. I can continue to risk the safety of my family in my Tahoe...

It's hypocritical that I don't feel safe driving an SUV?
Maybe I took too many semesters of physics in college?

I got a brand new Toyota Prius from the Emerald Aisle at LAX on tuesday evening. Never seen them there before, but at that particualr time, there must have been about 6 of them on the aisle.
