I have searched and I know that these hotels have been discussed to death but...

What i haven't gathered from these threads or the websites is whether the Champers is free flowing or is it one glass only.

I'm talking about club lounges in valley wing, shangri la, mandarin club etc etc.

ps. Which should i stay in? and which website offers the best rates? I need late check-out and shangri la offers two nights with late check out for 1800SGD inc tax. Or 620sgd per night +50% for late check-out.

its never just one glass.

RC club and valley wing seem to be the most popular here.

most clubs offer very late checkout, and IIRC some properties allow it for every room.

I would have to say the best is the Ritz,

and the worst among the best is the Mandarin,

as for free flow, i am not sure,

and the best bang for the buck it has to be Raffles Plaza.

What dates are you looking at? Two nights on the weekend will be less than two nights during the week, and prices will go up during busy periods.

Checking June 15, there is a weekend rate at the Ritz-Carlton in a Deluxe Club Room for 399 SGD per night. Virtuoso amenities are available at the Best Available Rate at the R-C.

The champagne was free-flowing at the Ritz Carlton Club Lounge, The Fullerton Straits Club, and the Conrad Executive Lounge when I have stayed there. Fullerton and Conrad serve Veuve while the Ritz serve Moet. The RC, however, do serve cocktails between set hours made by a dedicated bartender in the Lounge.

I cannot comment on the champage at the Oriental Club -- I was not there long enough to observe what they were serving. I have not stayed at the Shangri-La Valley Wing nor the Regent yet so I cannot comment.

To me, the Oriental Club is the best of the bunch. It offers the latest checkout. Officially it is 8pm, but they have never had a problem with me staying past 9 as most of the flights back to Europe leave after 11pm. They kept my glass pretty full when I was there yesterday. Always great service.

Does the MO club do champagne? and what are the hours of this service in the club?

Happy hour is 6 to 8 I think. But the Club is open at almost all hours.

The Champagne flows during breakfast and again at happy hour.

Just completed stays at the FS, Fullerton, IC, Conrad and Grand Hyatt here in SIN. I still give the FS the edge in terms of the level and consistency of service. The Fullerton is improving as well but at peak times the service is still very slow.

The IC is REALLY trying hard to up their service levels. As a Royal Ambassador I was upgraded to the Presidential Suite but the service all around is markedly better than in stays past. The Conrad has slipped and the Grand Hyatt was downright awful. My first stay at the Grand Hyatt left a foul taste in my mouth -- I will not be returning.

Thus my rankings are as such:

Four Seasons
Fullerton
Ritz Carlton
Inter-Continental
Conrad
Oriental
Grand Hyatt

Hmm. I am a regular guest at both the IC and the Oriental and I cannot conceive of rating the IC higher than the Oriental. The only thing the IC has going for it is the neighborhood. I also am a Royal Ambassador so the upgrades and free minibar are nice, but I also get upgrades at the Oriental with FHR, plus one free night per year. And the rooms, the Club, the restaurants and the service are far, far, far better at the Oriental.

The IC is certainly improving, starting a year ago. But it is still a league below the Oriental.

My rating is

Oriental/RC tie
Fullerton (needs room renovation and service improvement)
FS (way below, terrible excuse for a Club, poor attention to detail)
IC

I haven't stayed at the Hyatt or Conrad in years and I haven't tried the supposedly nice Shangri-La Valley Wing yet.

Has anybody tried the grand hotel suites of the Raffles Hotel? They have 5 or 6 one-bedroom suites (among which the Cathay suite which seems nice), and 2 two-bedroom suites (Sarkies & Raffles).

Much of these rankings will likely change once St. Regis Singapore opens later this year, and then again when Capella Singapore, on Sentosa, opens next year.

Pontiac Land, who has partnered with Schulze to open Capella, also owns the existing RC Millenia, Conrad and Regent Hotels. There is much speculation that the Regent will be rebranded as a Solis property.

Hmmm. It's a block off the busiest street in Singapore and it often hosts large conventions. Doesn't sound very secluded and quiet to me.

Occupancy was high while I was there but the hotel was still quiet and felt "secluded" as opposed to the SunTec area.....

Walking the hallways can be quiet I'll grant you. But the lobby can be quite busy as are the meeting areas. The Chinese restaurant is always busy, but that is because it is such a great restaurant and IMHO the best thing about the FS SIN. ^

Also this hotel is connected by corridor to the Hilton which generates some foot traffic.

I seem to remember there is one or 2 hotels in SIN that offer very late check out (9PM). Which one is that?

We have an 11:30PM flight back and a 9PM check out would be great.

Have enjoyed staying at the Shangri-La (Orange Grove Road, not Sentosa).

Club rooms at the MO give automatic 8pm check out, and they have never had a problem with me staying til 9:30pm. That's why I always stay at the MO if I am flying out to Europe.

The Shangrila up from Orchard Road has one style that exudes an almost luxury environment.

The Goodwood Park used to have the best colonial service and atmosphere of any of the really nice hotels around SE Asia, including the Oriental in BKK, the Manila Hotel in Manila, and the FS properties in both S'pore and BKK.

What about now? Does anyone have recent reports on the rooms, service, food?

Goodwood Park has been 'over' for years. Don't even think of staying there. Shangri-La (even the Valley Wing) is a scrum - full of conventions. Four Seasons is THE choice - very intimate, no sign of conventions (and I've stayed a few times), great food and service. The refurbishment there is really making a difference, too. Ones to watch are Ritz-Carlton's Millenia, which is going through a huge refurbishment, but is a great hotel - also watch out for the opening of Capella on Sentosa.

Thanks for the very helpful updates on Goodwood Park and Shangri la and recommends on FS and new properties.

Um, I attended a large convention at the Four Seasons. And I can assure you we weren't the only one. A lot of their business is conferences and conventions. And while the food is good (like most all Singapore hotels), the service I experienced was anything but good. The FS may have improved over the last year, but I wouldn't know. There are much better choices in Singapore.
