I am considering flying OZ from SFO - ICN w/wife and 2 kids. I have never flown OZ before and had questions about the C class seats on the 777's. Are they the newer "shell" type seats, or the old recliners? Any feedback on OZ's C class in general. I typically fly CX to Asia.

Thanks.

Welcome to Flyertalk.

The general consensus on Asiana is food and service = good, seat and entertainment = bad.

I mainly fly ICN-LHR which used to be 747 recliners. I survived, even slept. Next week I fly on a 777 (probably recliner).

I once was on an A330 with the shell seats (for a short NRT-ICN flight) and they were a considerable improvement, but as I said, the recliners are bearable, especially as OZ is usually much cheaper than its competitors.

If you are going to pay C-class seat between ICN-SFO,

go for Singapore 777-300 it is State of the art.

But much more expensive than Asiana. One of the reasons I fly OZ is because it is considerably cheaper than its competitors (at least on the routes that I fly). If you or your company have deep pockets you may be better of with SQ or NH.

OZ has 3 kinds of 777 although they have only 7 777s.

2 777s (32 C seats): New C seat, AVOD, currently goes to SFO and SEA
2 (or 3?) 777s (28 C seats): New C seat, PTV, currently goes to LAX and LHR
3 (or 2?) 777s (35 C seats): Old C seat, PTV

Therefore, your travel will be awesome in both software and hardware. However, things will be changed a little bit soon, since OZ will introduce 2 more 777s this summer. But I believe SFO will see new C seats w/ AVOD for a while.

mcg1000, currently LHR goes with new C seat one, but there are a lot of fleet changes this month, I'm not sure. Although seatmap of your "seat selection" on the website shows 35 J seats (old one), your flight may have 28 or 32 J seats which mean new one.

It would be great if it did have the shell seats. I will report back after my flight.

Yes: don't confuse the 777 recliner with the mechanical armchairs on the 747!

I actually think I prefer the 777 recliners to the beds- although in the former case the seat in front DOES move into your space.
The entertainment has never given me a problem. OZ service IS good; food excellent and attentiveness great, without being over the top.
Enjoy!

The new 777 C seat (lie flat) is very good. I was on one of the planes with the new seat but without AVOD. I was also on the old style C seats. They are basically ok. The only seat totally unacceptable is the 747 C seat.

It was not a recliner, but a lovely new cocoon seat. Excellent flight. I didn't sleep much because it was light the whole journey and I'm glad I didn't because the inflight snack, which was served by the crew as if it were a meal, was scones with which I had with a nice cup of tea. They were truly excellent, better than most baked goods I've had on the ground, let alone in the air! I also wolfed down a sandwich. Lack of AVOD is the only complaint, and I'm not sure why it hasn't been addressed given the quality of the seat now which matches the service and food (those scones!)

Surprising. I'm sorry you couldn't enjoy lie flat seat. OZ does change fleet a lot - unpredictable. And sorry for any confusion due to my wrong information.

Sorry if my message was confusing. I did have the lie-flat seat and enjoyed it a lot!
