is this possible?
i have a DEN-SEA ticket for 6pm, but the earlier flights are booked full. can i fly standby DEN-PDX? in the end it shouldn't make a difference to the airline...they got my money, they transported me.
curious if anyone has done this or knows if it's allowed. not sure reservations understood my inquiry.

it would only be possible if there is space available to sell and they would charge you the fare difference as well as a change fee; however, it would no longer technically be standby as you are doing an exchange for another city.

They would probably let you do this in case of irregularities such as the SEA flight being heavily overbooked given availability on PDX.

What about cities who are often considered co-terminals like San Francisco/San Jose?
At least NWA seems to let you use their Standby/FlyNow option to include SFO/SJC as well as JFK/LGA when I'm making that trip. Usually at least something is open!

co-terminals are one thing. changes to another city is a different situation. SEA and PDX are not co-terminals.

unfortunately, an oversold flight is not technically considered an irregular ops.
for the OP, if you want to go earlier, it never hurts to just go to the airport and S/B at no charge. oversold or not, if you can get on the list as early as possible, you have a good chance of getting on the flt as a REV PAX.

This would not be permitted under most circumstances. IROP situations that would possibly allow the OP to do this would be a cancellation or major delay on the SEA flight.
F9 has very few if any co-terminals - SFO and SJC are NOT coterminals, and neither is PDX/SEA.
Remember that you can confirm an earlier/later flight for the same day for $25 or standby for free the same calendar day as well.

This is free for Summit Level members, also to change +/- one day
