Hilton HHonors - Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio versus Doubletree Alana Hotel WaikikiView Full Version : Hilton Waikiki Prince Kuhio versus Doubletree Alana Hotel Waikiki bbbb Jan 2, 05, 10:23 pm Anyone stay at the Honolulu double tree or the prince? Witch hotel is better if the price is the same? cblaisd Jan 2, 05, 10:26 pm There are lots and lots and lots of posts on the Doubletree. You may want to do a search on "Honolulu" or "HNL" and "Doubletree" or "DT" The gist of those threads, imo, is that the DT gets very mixed reviews, but mostly trending downhill. patricia Jan 3, 05, 12:03 am If you are just lookinag at price then the prince is a bargain and has a nice view If you like japanese food the 2nd floor has a great buffet and restaurant if you are considering working on your stays for hilton honors then the doubletree is okay its older but being upgraded i night okay a few days no I would stay someplace better yyzflyer Jan 3, 05, 8:33 am The DT is a dump, the staff are rude and HH status recognition is non-existent. As pointed out above, the trend in reviews here has been to the negative, including mine from this past year. Do a search, then run, do not walk, to the Prince if the rate is anywhere close. illa bells Jan 3, 05, 10:47 am The Prince is a much, much, much, MUCH nicer property in all respects - the location, the sleeping rooms, the common areas, etc. Unless the DT is nearly sold out, I doubt the prices at the 2 hotels will be nearly the same. My guess is you'll have to end up paying at least $50 more per night to stay at the Prince (well worth it, IMO). illa bells Jan 3, 05, 10:50 am sorry- browser problem kevino Jan 3, 05, 4:37 pm The Prince is a much nicer hotel with a much nicer pool. If you need stay credit, maybe you should stay one night at the DBT and then walk over to the Prince for the rest of your trip. mcgahat Jan 3, 05, 6:09 pm I actually like both hotels. The Prince is a nicer hotel but no balcony with all rooms facing the ocean/marina. I found the Prince boring but nice. The non renovated rooms in the DT are certainly not even close to the standard of the Prince but with broadband in the renovated rooms at the DT and a balcony/lanai I would give the edge to the DT for the room. THe DT will tell you that they have ocean view rooms but and you can see the ocean through a few other hotels and pretty far away so ocean view rooms really arent a big deal for me at this hotel. Location, they are basically the same location so neither have any considerable advantage there. Food service, neither do well in this area either as there arent many options at either hotel. The DT has a restaurant and wine bar which are concessions and do not really do much business because in my view they dont fit in with people staying at a cheap hotel, they are not cheap food/drink options. I do like the wine bar options though....it was much better though when they gave $10/day f&b credit for diamonds, made it more reasonable. Rooms service is better at the Prince with both having limited hours. I think the Prince bell staff is more willing to help with the bags if needed and more professional but I find the DT's quicker to get the cars as they are so close. They have no self parking option at the DT. Edited to add, the pool at the DT is quite small and really "cosy". The good thing is that nobody really uses it as it gets very little sun and is so small, the bad thing is that it gets no sun and is really small. If they are at the same price, I would take a renovated room and my points at the DT. If internet, balcony or points arent important than the Prince is the the better option. |
