The Caribbean - 10 hours in NAS... what to do, what to do

I have about $200 in unused AA credit that expires next month, so I decide to go to a place that's close enough to fly RT on the same day, but out of the country. With only $200 in AA credit, from MCO my only choice is NAS.

What can I do for a day in Nassau? It doesn't have to be cheap, but I'd rather it not be expensive. Scuba isn't an option since I will have flown within 24 hours (I am not fond of getting bent to be honest), so I'm just thinking lounge at the beach while sipping drinks for 10 hours isn't a bad plan. Maybe go to the port and take some photographs.

Just looking for ideas :)

If it was me I would lie on the beach and kick back a few Pina Coladas.

However there are a couple other things to do.

There is a straw market near the cruise ship terminal which has some nice things to buy.

There is a GREAT lagoon to go kayaking in near the Wyndam and Nassau Beach Club hotel. Its the best looking ocean water I have EVER seen. It looks better than a Windows background!!

Have you looked into SNUBA. You dont go as deep and you might be able to fly without decompresing. You could always take a snorkeling booze cruise!! :D

Bacardi Rum Factory!

Not easy to get to, on the south side of the island if I remember correctly.

Greeting and open bar, followed by five minute tour of factory (mostly rows and rows of barrels), followed by a lot more open bar. Enjoy the opportunity to purchase Bacardi products not available in the US.

The port won't hold your interest for 10 minutes. I don't think it holds more than 4 ships and I've never seen more than 2. It's also restricted access.

There is shopping. I found a store that specializes in antique maps and spent an hour there until Mrs BamaVol pulled me out by the ear. By all means, use your allowance to purchase liquor. I would warn you to watch the cash register closely, as I have on more than one occasion been charged a price that didn't match the one on the shelf. I guess I'd head to Paradise Island if I had a half day to kill in NAS.

Sleep ;-)

Actually I enjoy Atlantis and the aquariums and the other intresting pieces of the property...

I agree with the aquarium at Atlantis ($10 cab or $3 ferry IIRC) and then the free, clean, public beach next door (about 10 minute walk).

The Fish Fry -- quite a lot of local flavor when I was there. :)
