I have the option to rent between the two in SF, but wonder if one is really better than the other, and if the kids will be able to see out in the backseat. How low are the seats? The kids are 6 and 10, average sized.

Thanks.

We have the new Sebrings which are vastly improved over the 2006 model. We even have about 10 of the limited trim models with the 3.5L engine--those things have some guts and are very nice (the Boston Acoustics audio system is pretty killer for a stock system, too).

SFO, though, probably won't have the Limiteds and may not even have the 2007 models (we have a short lease cycle due to our very short tourist season and have only new cars). Seeing as how that is probably the case, I'd say go for the Charger--it's a much more fun vehicle.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the kids not being able to see out of the windows--I don't think the panels are that high.

Especially if the difference in rate is only a few bucks a day, go for the fullsize. You can always ask for the Sebring when you pick up if you don't like the Charger (they may or may not give you a lower rate, but if it's only a couple bucks a day, it wouldn't matter), whereas if you book the midsize and ask to upgrade, they'll probably want more like $10 a day for the upgrade to the Charger.

Keep in mind that most companies' rental fleets (Dollar included) are not always from one manufacturer. You are reserving a fullsize car, the example of which is a Dodge Charger or similar. That could be a Chevy Impala, Ford Taurus, Pontiac Grand Prix, or any other similarly-sized car--not necessarily a Charger. However, Dollar and Thrifty have had a history of affiliations with (and even past ownership by) Chrysler, so more often than not, you'll run into Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep products there.

I should also note that the midsize class includes the new Dodge Avenger. Not sure if SFO has those in, yet (or, as I said before, even the 2007 Sebrings--we just got Avengers in about a month ago), but they're fun-looking (like mini-Chargers) but not all that special (except for the couple we got in with sunroofs and the ultra-cool LED dome/reading lights).

At a large location like SFO, you probably will have a large selection of cars and can try to convince the rental agent to give you the Charger (instead of the Taurus, etc., although the Impala is nice and has more get-up-and-go than even the Charger). Service at large corporate locations usually isn't as personable as at smaller mom-n-pop-like franchises, but see the post PT Cruiser or Dodge Charger (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=693872) for more tips on getting a specific model of car.

A sebring is a boring car with nothing going for it. The Charger is at least large and fast.

Hmm...I'm not sure I'd agree with that. I would consider buying the new 2007 Sebring (yes, the 2006s are boring), and I would STRONGLY consider the 2007 Limited with the 3.5L engine. That is one sweet car.

But all things considered, I'd lean towards renting the Charger.
