Hertz - When is YF an upgrade over F and Q?

Got a vehicle at RIC as usual.

Get there and offered a Forester or Sante Fe. Both were base models and I didnt want a SUV. Again offered a RAV4, said OK and then she said no, there was something a miss with it in the computer.

Had keys to YF chrager and YF 300 Touring. Said I take one of those. She said it would be 25 a day extra. I was like I booked fullsize and that is what that is...YF though.

Looked out and there was atleast 15 Fullsize cars out there, she kept saying I dont have any...

Finally I settled for a C class Mazda 6. Quite upset that they had fullsize cars and a few premiums and I could not get one. Having to settle for a midsize car at a fullsize rate. Will calling the billing dept get my rate reduced and maybe a coupon for the troubles or call RIC manager directly?

5 rentals over about a month.

YF Accord for the 1st
YF something else 2nd. (forgot)
Q4 Jeep Liberty for the 3rd
YF Grand Prix GXP for the 4th
and now this C class vehicle.

Dont tell me YF is an upgrade over F or Q that I should pay 25 bucks for...

YF is definitely considered a one-class upgrade over F by Hertz (but not IMO -- it's at best a half-class upgrade), so if you're not PC they could technically charge for it.

On the other hand, $25 is an outrageous upgrade fee, and considering your reservation was for F and there were no such cars, they should have given it to you out of courtesy (and since you rent so often there). I would definitely get the rate reduction and ask for a $25-50 coupon or two.

Well my email and call got me the whole rental refunded. Right at 75 bucks.

Pretty happy with that I must say, Also they said they would contact RIC on the fact that if no F is there and SUV is refused and plenty of YF's or nicer are there then I should have been entitled to one.

One hopes I dont have to go through this again and take more of Hertz money because some egghead manager wants to be so tight.

There again and the manager outside was trying to fight with customers on the lot because the agent gave them a Nitro on a F reservation. Wanted them to unpack the Nitro and get in a Tuarus that had just come out of the wash.

Just had to stand around and watch how that was going to end. With them pulling off in the Nitro.

Glad to see that it worked out -- Hertz Customer Service is usually pretty good about that. ^

I'd turn down a Nitro on a F reservation as well -- it's a decent rig, but is still a small SUV, and a cheap one at that (with discounts/rebates, I'm sure they can be had for compact-like pricing).

No the manager was trying to make the customer switch after they had gotten the keys and loaded it up!

Ah, reading isn't one of my strong suits I suppose. :D In that case, I'd probably take the Nitro, but that's just to avoid the Taurus. ;)
