I have been without a shortwave radio since Katrina. I had a small SONY SW radio (not digital) that I carreid with me on my travels. I am looking for a SW radio. Any recommendations regarding the model(s) or where to buy? I had bought my earlier one aboard a KLM flight.

We lost power last week in a t-storm. I got out my nice small Eton E100 and listened to music during the storm. They go for about $100 and half that on ebay. I have never seen so much AM/FM/SW power packed into a small light 7 oz package. I often use this in HI and Europe.

Hi
I have just purchased, and can recommend, the Degen DE-1103. This is also sold as the Kaito KA-1103.
It is a chinese receiver and whilst the controls are a little unusual the radio performs very well. It covers up to 30 mhz continuously and has good selectivity and sensitivity. It has a digital readout, clock, alarm ect
And the price is well under $US 100 delivered

The following two ebay sellers in China appear very reliable.

Make sure you get the right transformer for your country's power system.

I've bought sw radios, particularly used ones at good prices from an outfit in Ohio. The last one I got was a Drake closeout that I love. I can't recall the name of the company, but got their name out of a radio magazine I used to subscribe to.
Details tonight after I get home. Universal-radio.com (http://universal-radio.com/) has an everchanging list of used equipment, as well as new stuff.

I have a Grundig Mini 100 PE that I have to keep taking away from the teenager, so it must be cool :-)

I have a Sony ICF-SW7600GR which I love, I haven't had it very long but it is great and goes almost everywhere with me.

Very spendy, but a cool toy for the serious DXer on the move!

I should point out that if you order the 180 MHz option, you can scan aircraft radio frequencies and listen to ATC!

I always travel with my Eton E100. It's very compact, I understand the interface, and it has good pull for its size. I can spend dull evenings in hotel rooms hunting up numbers stations. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numbers_station) And I got it at a Radio Shack clearance sale for about $40! I'm very happy with it.

Wow, people still listen to SW? I have a couple receivers but have not used them for that since they invented WAP and internet radio.
