So says this report (http://www.mg.co.za/articlePage.aspx?articleId=308905&area=/breaking_news/breaking_news__national/)in the Mail & Guardian. Sounds like a real mess with pax delayed in IAD overnight and many not accommodated in hotels.
Is this a symptom that the rocky road of restructuring SAA is going to have all sorts of fallout - none of it pleasant for passengers?:(

Personally I don't believe the part that they were not able to accommodate all pax due to the hotels being full.

What was the weather like?
I have been stuck at IAD when all the hotels with a shuttle were full...it was bad weather day with UA really messed up...and the 20 or so hotels I called had nothing.

Personally I don't think this has anything to do with restructuring or even with SAA per se. It is yet another example of what the South African labour laws (the most 'advanced' in the world  ) are doing not only to the country's competitiveness but also to its image. I hope that crew gets what it deserves!

If it was Sunday night, there was a big thunderstorm with heavy rain that passed through in about 45 minutes.
I'd say it happended around 6pm where I was about 17-20 miles from Dulles.
It would be enough to hold things up for a couple of hours if you had already pushed back and were holding out on the runway.
