Starwood Preferred Guest - Upgrade to club level / no lounge access

Hi everyone,

Yesterday, I've used for the first my complimentary SPG Gold membership upon check-in at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina in SAN. I am there for a convention and I'm not the one paying for my room (and the room booked was probably one of the cheapest rate availbale). So I just showed the check-in agent my SPG Gold card thinking it couldn't hurt (but not expecting anything from it), and I had the nice surprise to find myself upgraded to a Club Level Floor Junior Suite. I must say that for my first try, I am quite happy with SPG!

I, however, noticed that my room card doesn't allow me to use the elevator to get to the lounge. Should I politely ask why at the Front Desk? Or would you think that I'm asking too much ?
Does SPG usually upgrade people to a Club Level Floor room without subsequently granting access to their lounge?

(I don't want to go to the Front Desk and sound like a complete jerk not acknowledging the fact that I've already got a nice upgrade. However, if someone here thinks that access to their lounge is part of the upgrade, I'll probably ask)

Thanks everyone for your opinion!

Cheers,

Fred.

If you are in a club level room you should have access to the lounge. Just go to the front desk and tell them your key is not working for the lounge and that you are in a club level room. They should easily fix it for you. If not, don't make a stink or anything. But worth a shot. I don't think they will think poorly of you... they upgraded you on their own... so no hurt in trying to ask about lounge access. :D

I did what you proposed and they gave me another key that allows me to access the lounge. No questions asked!

Great news! Enjoy. My girlfriend and I got upgraded to a club room when we stayed on Tenerife in the Canary Islands and loved the lounge there. Beside the club level brunch every morning out by the pool / ocean, the midday drinks and food in the club was phenomenol. Also, the access to complimentary drinks at all times of the day and night were great too. We could not have been happier.
