Reserved a C class car for a weekend trip from YYZ to YUL - decided to pay a few dollars to upgrade to a BMW X3 (class P4).
Basic 3.0i with premium package. Prices out at CA$49,900.
Power: Meh. Only 215hp. Strong enough, with smooth delivery, but not enough low end grunt for my taste. Squirted nicely in downtown YUL traffic though. The 6 speed transmission is very smooth.
Ride / Handling: Haven't quite figured out why someone would buy this over a 325xi wagon. Yes you sit higher, but you feel it when you drive. Nice enough in town, but the ride up the 401 and back got uncomfortable. The vehicle is just too short, and has a bumpy ride.
Interior: Typical BMW. Nicely laid out. Manual 6 way seats were very comfortable.
Features: No neverlost, no Sirius. iPod jack in the centre console though, which is a nice touch! The sunroof was great! Basically the whole roof is glass. I decided to do some aviation photography at YUL, and the sunroof was great to stand out of to get views over the fence.
Value: I paid 60ish a day for the car - but it was fun to take with a friend on the trip. Would I do it again? No. But all in all a fun ride.
The Good: Nice visibility by sitting up high. The heated steering wheel is a nice touch! Comfortable seats. Strong centre console
The Bad: Rough ride. The lack of power.
