The Sheraton Duluth was supposed to have its "soft" opening today. It is a brand new 3* hotel built on the site of the old Hotel Duluth. You can book rooms at spg.com for stays that begin on June 1, 2007. I booked a room for one night in July at $149 per night -- that's expensive, but its also high tourist season in frigid Duluth - the "air-conditioned city."

Is anyone staying there now or staying there later this month? Please post your experiences. Of course, there are no reviews yet at tripadvisor.com.

The SPG web site says:

Located in the heart of downtown Duluth, the Sheraton Duluth Hotel is ideally situated for business, weekend getaways, or an extended vacation. We're connected via skyway to St. Mary's Duluth Clinic and Miller-Dwan Medical Center and are also just minutes from the Duluth Airport.

Full of charm and ambience, our 147 guest rooms and suites give you everything you need for a great stay, from the Sheraton Sweet SleeperSM Bed to the flat screen TV, wired/wireless Internet, soft leather chair, and much more. For the comfort of our guests, we are a smoke-free hotel.

Ease your tensions in our state-of-the-art fitness center. Swim a few laps in the heated indoor pool. Or simply relax in the whirlpool. The Lakewalk, located just a short walk away, offers a quiet place to enjoy the shore of Lake Superior.

I stayed in Duluth a week ago and they told me the hotel had been open a week, so the 5/24/07 opening sounds right.

Very stylish. Change the brown color palette to gray and it could be a Westin. Upscale bathroom. First US hotel at which I've stayed where the HDTVs actually have HD programming. They offer a shuttle to locations within a three mile radius and will pick up on demand - perhaps to overcome somewhat limited restaurant options in the area?

They were still doing some cosmetic work: drywall repairs, the scent of carpet glue...

I got ample attention so if staff training takes this is going to be a great property for those who must travel to Duluth.

Great - nice to hear that Duluth is getting another good hotel. I'm headed there next week...not in a hotel (we'll be pitching a tent), but I'll keep that Sheraton in mind for future years.
