In December I am scheduled to take Air New Zealand flight 6 departing AKL at 7:15 pm, and arriving LAX at 10:25 am. I booked this as an award flight using United MP miles. Today I looked at "my itineries" on the United website and it now shows the aircraft for this flight being a 777-200. I knew previously this was a 747-400. I checked the Air New Zealand website and it shows this flight still a 747-400. I know that the United itinerary website has been wrong before with aircraft type, but I am curious if this is just another United aircract type error, or if an aircraft change really is in progress. Can anyone help? Thank you.

I'd trust the NZ website a lot more than UA's .bomb

That's what I thought. But today as I check the Air Zew Zealand web site, although flight 6 shows a 747-400, in a simulated purchase, the seating chart matches that of a 777. Maybe something is going on, or am I wrong?

Hum, what happened to the 747-400 seating chart? Can't say I am happy about this, I liked the seats I had. I am traveling with someone and we had seats 1 A, K, which would have been great for socializing. I think this possible change stinks.

Indeed NZ shows NZ6 as a 744 with a 772 seat map. EF shows NZ6 as a 772 with a 772 seat map. The code shares (AC and UA) on EF show the flight as a 744. So it's a little messed up right now

I called Air New Zealand to enquire if there really is a change. At first I was told it was a 747, but as I enquired further, the agent discovered that it was indeed a 777. I had to change my seats becasue the seats I once had now no longer exist. I don't know why there's a change, and why some of the system is not accurately reflecting the change, but I hope that the aircraft changes back to the 747-400 at some time in the future before my departure date.

Seems that this switch may be for a short period of time? I checked December 9, and the seating chart showed a 747, but switched to 777 on December 10. Didn't check when it switched back, but it's a 747 again by Decembe 12.

I see that the 747 has about 46 BP seats, and the 777 has about 26 BP seats. So what happens if prior to this change, there were 27 or more BP seats taken, then comes the 777 change which has only 26 BP seats. Does someone get unlucky?

On Sundays and Wednesdays it looks like NZ4 will be flying the 772 around that time leaving NZ2 and NZ6 with the 744's

Just looked back at other threads related to this topic and it looks like this 747/777 switch occurs occasionally. People who posted didn't seem happy about it either.
