Hi folks,

I too am an OZ newbie and have purchased a full Y ticket, TAO/ICN and then a few days later ICN/TPE. I am thinking about upgrading these flts using UA miles.

A few questions:

1. We (2 people) have nearly 87 kg of baggage. Is OZ strict on this kind of stuff both in TAO and ICN? We are both * Gold members so we get an extra 20kg each. With the Y allowance, that brings us right up to 80kg.

2. The ICN/TPE flight is on a 767. Is it worth it to upgrade? I've heard that their 767 isn't good at all from this board but is coach unbearable?

3. If the 767 is bad, should I just fly on the TG flight later in the evening down to TPE?

THanks for the help. Really looking forward to sampling this Star Airline.

1. It depends on "staff", you know. But I think they are not too strict on that. You'll be able to do it free if you ask several times with smile.

2. ICN/TPE is only 2 and a half hours. C class seat on 767 is just ordinary business class seat, but will be okay with nice full lunch. And Y class is 32 inch, which is also okay for such short trip. With the upgrade, you'll also be able to enjoy lounge.

3. TG's C class is 49 inch, no better than OZ's 50". I think both are okay. Just pick one that fits your schedule.

I think I'm going to stick with Y because it useless to use 40,000 miles for both sectors on a star upgrade. Lounge access in no problem b/c of * Gold.

We also have been "forgiven" as few extra kg, however, not every time.
Usually we pack a few heavy items (books, packaged foor, etc.) in an easy to reach spot just in case we need to shed some weight at check-in. Then we stuff the offending items into our carry-on or even a shopping bag from one of the shops. Best to have a plan B...

Then that's the best idea! Have a nice flight.

Well, at teh last minute I found a ticket that cost 50% less than the one we had originally booked. We decided to fly Y on the A321 and will fly Y on the 767. Glad to save the money on such short flights. The OZ A321 row 15 was wonderfully comfortable and the service was friendly and efficient. The aircraft was spotless: after being in China for a month in this trip, it was great to get into a plane like that and realize that I was now gone. I'm sure its better up front and I would like to try OZ F product in comparison to my usual flights with SQ. Based on the service style of teh Y stewardesses, I'm not sure they will be as friendly as teh SQ staff.

Baggage: We were not charged even though we were 20kg over (100kg alltogether)! Even with the Priority tags it came out rather haphazardly.

What are the best seats on the 767 in Y?

So, not full Y fare, but some cheap ticket? That would be rare for such one-way trip, isn't it? Good for you. And also nice to hear about your baggage issue.

Hmm.. best seat on 767 Y. I've been on OZ's 767 Y class several times, but I'm sorry I have no idea about which seat is good. Those were short trip so that I don't even mind about seat, or night trip so that I just search for empty row like crazy to lie down.

By the way, you have 3 'teh' instead of 'the'. lol

teh / the
OLD HABITS DIE HARD :).

At any rate, flight on 767 is tomorrow. I will post best seats on OZ 767 service in Y. Important to me as I'm pretty tall. Hopefully baggage will once again not be a problem. I will try to have them check all the way through to USA (hopefully giving me piece concept) even though I am overnighting for about 24 hrs in TPE for work.
