Other North & South America Frequent Flyer Programs - STAR GOLD ALLIANCE UPGRADE

I am PremEx on United (Star Gold Alliance). Is it true I can upgrade 48 hrs. before the flight - that's what the woman there told me. Does anyone have any experience doing this?

Great news on this - all I did in Mexico City was check in at the Star Alliance - Gold (Clase Ejecutiva) counter for Mexicana and presented my PremEx (United Gold) card and asked if there were any upgrades available.

The woman asked if I wanted window or aisle. I said aisle and was given 2D - with no silliness re: certs.

I plan on doing the same thing tomorrow.
