How was your run? Any problems?

In honor of the TUS-SYR-SEA DL B Fare (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7735199#post7735199), and here's request, here is a mini-trip report. As background, DL's 5+ schedule changes caused me to end up with this itinerary LAS-PHX on US on a separate ticket // PHX-SLC on DL //EWR-CLE-SEA on CO followed by a 12 hours on the ground // SEA-ATL-SYR-ATL-PHX on DL // PHX-LAS on US on aformentioned separate ticket.

I flew LAS-PHX Friday morning, but strangely had a minor delay in LAS due to late luggage. Work was uneventful and I returned to the airport 2 hours before my DL flight. I joined the WorldClub over the phone with the HNL club and had them email me my temporary membership information. I went to the PHX CRC and had a few drinks before boarding the SkyWest to SLC. I read the Sky West Magazine (http://www.skywestmagazine.com/)article on their 35th anniversary which was very interesting. Strangely, there was no mention of ASA in the article:confused: Additionally, Plane Crazy snacks have been discontinued even though they are still advertised in the magazine.

Upon arrival in SLC, I called trekwars2000 to discuss my present MR and future MR opportunities. The significant other of a FTer was there on MR to the ORD IC hotel. We had a nice conversation before I left for my flight. CO SLC-EWR had to return to the gate due to Engine #2 not starting. As I had a tight connection in EWR, I started calling the airlines to arrange for a reroute, but both CO and DL phone agents were passing the buck. The GA then came onboard and pulled me off. The GA cleaned up my res as 5 DL reissues had not properly synced the CO PNR with the DL PNR. I received a new CO ticket number showing me confirmed on the morning DL flight, an itinerary print out showing confirmed DL flights, as well as a free hotel voucher and a $6 meal voucher. The hotel was the Radisson SLC airport; I thoroughly enjoyed playing with the Sleep Number Bed there. I tried OLCI at the hotel and failed - I then called DL res, but the Indian agent did not understand how I was not on my way to EWR. I asked to be transferred to the reissue desk and was advised by them to go to the airport and check in at the counter.

Long story short, I show up at SLC 1.5 hours before my flight. DL has no record of my res, while CO insists that they sent the res over. I ran back and forth between the 2 terminals twice. As the flight was oversold, DL refused to issue me a boarding pass. They insisted that I standby for the flight. Luckily, the flight was light by 2 and I was able to board. Upon arrival in SEA, I went to the CRC and asked the matron to clean up my PNR and make sure I could get home. The extreme number of reissues actually stumped both matrons as they had never seen anything so convoluted in their lives. I gave her my cell phone number; she called me 4 hours later to inform me that my PNR was clean and I was good to go ^

I checked in for my flight without issue, grabbed a double shot of whiskey in the CRC and boarded. My seatmate in row 27 of the 763 was an Army soldier who had arrived SEA that morning returning from a 2 year tour in Japan. We ran a wee bit late departing, but I reassured him that DL had padded their schedule. We arrived ATL on-time and I headed to the CRC for some R&R. I should add that I am very upset that the Chik Fil'A in ATL is still closed as it was last week:(

I inquired about my flight from the matron in the CRC and found out that it was overbooked by 1. As such, I headed to the ASA gate downstairs (B24 IIRC) 61 minutes before departure and greeted the GA. I stated my intention to serve as a volunteer, but she made me wait 67 seconds for her to gain control of the flight. As she was beginning to get control, the DL ticket counter called and asked her to relinquish control so that they might load some standby pax. Half an hour later, 7 Army soldiers in full fatigues showed up at the gate. The GA announced over the PA that they had just returned from Iraq on leave. All the PAX in the area gave them a 15 second round of applause which made them smile.

Long story short, 6 seats came open . The GA lamented that she could not offer me VDB compensation and I should board. At this point, I came clean and said I really do not have to go to SYR. All I wanted was the miles and for her to note my PNR so that I could claim missing miles. The GI and GA were both extremely grateful. I was confirmed on the next flight to PHX, issued 1500 bonus SkyMiles (already posted to my DL account), and a $7 food voucher. Both GAs and the Sup thanked me profusely for allowing this soldier a ride home for his 2 weeks of leave. While 1500 DL RDM is less than the 3964 NW RDM & 2378 NW EQM I would have earned, perhaps a WorldPerks angel will smile down on me and still let me get credit for the flights.

The flight to PHX was on the Pink ex-Song Breast Cancer 757. Again, I grabbed a double shot of whiskey in the CRC prior to boarding and passed out. Apparently, a Col. McLauclin from PHX was onboard with us. He was a Congressional Medal of Honor winner. All this was explained over the PA mid-flight, but I was happily asleep and only woke up to the applause following this announcement. On landing, the Captain explained to use that we were to be greeted in a tradition with a water canon salute by the Fire Department. While I had read of this tradition on FT before, it was very cool to actually experience it first hand.

I then went to US to get confirmed on the early flight home to LAS. Let's just say the US mechanics are not happy right now. Incidentally, US397 @1:35pm was canceled which caused both the flight before and after it to go oversold. I boarded US306, the 1:19pm departure, in F and was almost offloaded when they thought they were oversold by 2. After 2 hours at the gate on a mx delay due to a faulty bathroom smoke detector, I called the US CP line and got confirmed onto US216. I figured this flight would be oversold and if not, at least get home around the same time as my previous flight. I deplaned and grabbed lunch with my leftover DL voucher.

I went to the gate and volunteered, but they did not need anyone to be VDBed. Miraculously, this flight was delayed over an hour due to an overflow of hydraulic fluid. BTW, I had the same male FA as my outbound LAS-PHX flight on this flight. I finally made it back home (ok, not home - the El Cortez hotel which is my temporary home this month thanks to Orbitz and FT) around 6pm which is 5 hours earlier than I should have gotten home. My 10 segment MR was pared down to 6 segments, but was a great adventure!

Monday, I faxed NWA elite line a missing miles request with copies of all BPs, receipts, and a full explanation of what occurred.

I went to my WorldPerks account tonight and saw my originally ticketed itinerary qued to post. Right now, the flights show code S:

Code Definition for Mileage Activity:
S - Mileage too soon to post.

Apparently, the angels in MN are smiling down on me.
