Hey everybody, over from the US Airways forum. I was writing about how US may start flying CLT-MLB(Melbourne,Florida), and while trying to look up that code on wikipedia.org for MLB, I input MEL and it loaded Melbourne Australia. I go interested to see what routes they offer, just for Pete's sake, and I saw NZ showing nonstop service to Rarotonga and SFO which I found quite odd for ANZ. I did expect AKL,CHC, WEL, and the FreedomAir flights to Dunedin and Palmerston North, but not MEL-SFO/RAR.
I know we cannot trust wikipedia.org, but I am intrigued by this...

Yes wikipedia is incorrect. Rarotonga and San Francisco are served via Auckland.

Right. The flights referred to (NZ7 MEL-AKL-SFO and NZ842 MEL-CHC-RAR) are direct, but of course, not non-stop. To be fair to wikipedia, it never says that they are non-stop services.

To both of you,
Thanks for the clarification.
The only reason I thought is nonstop is because what wiki lists are mostly nonstops.
They also list nonstop to LAX from MEL when it's via SYD on UA, but since UA cannot sell MEL-SYD seperate but as a whole they didn't list SYD as a UA destination out of MEL. Same goes for QF at JFK, they list it as QF going from JFK to SYD because QF cannot sell just JFK-LAX.
But since NZ is allowed to sell just MEL-CHC or just MEL-AKL, I assumed that those would not be the direct offerings that Wiki is offering but the nonstop ones, but as you both clarified- there are no MEL-SFO or MEL-RAR NZ nonstop flights.
Thanks again, and sorry for the semi-worthless thread, but the inquisitive mind of mine...
Cheers!
