I'm arriving into Antigua next Saturday ~2:30 PM from Atlanta, then leaving the next morning at 5:45 AM on LIAT to Barbados. (Delta cancelled their Tobago flight, we had to find another way to get there).

Trying to find a cheap/close place (pref near to the airport) to crash since we need to be up early anyway, but would like to see some part of the island in the late afternoon/evening. Any good ideas?

hauteboy,

Based on your criteria, here are my recommendations:

Amaryllis Hotel - http://www.amaryllishotel.com/
Not a bad place to spend a night. Kinda close to a major road so traffic noise could be a problem. Very close to airport.

Beachcomber Hotel Bar & Restaurant – 268 462 3100
Closest property to the airport but would not want to spend a night there again. Last time I stayed there was back in 2004 and the place was a dump and mosquito infested. From what I have heard not much has changed.

City View Hotel & Restaurant - http://www.cityviewhotelantigua.com/
Ideal for business travellers and over nighters. I would highly recommend.

Heritage Hotel - http://www.heritagedowntown.com/
Ideal for business travellers and over nighters. I would highly recommend. Be sure to ask for a room in the "newer complex".

Johannesj:
The reviews on Trip Advisor (if they are considered halfway reliable) are less than favorable for the City View Hotel. (Likewise for the Beachcomber.) There are no reviews, however, for the Heritage, whose website touts itself as the "premier" downtown hotel in St. John's. I'm in the same situation as Hauteboy and need a room for one night near the airport for a departure early the next morning but am willing to pay extra for something nicer. Can I assume that the rooms in the "newer complex" of the Heritage are nicer than the accommodations in the City View? Any other choices within a few minutes from ANU? Thanks for any help.

RMC500,

City View is not the best business traveller hotel but if expectations are managed then I am sure one can find it comfortable for one night. I personally stay there for a week during the Antigua Sailing Week one year. No world class service and no fancy rooms but they are clean and safe.

Hands down my pick would be the Heritage Hotel but and I must stress this... ensure you get a room in the newer complex, you don't want to be in the older building.

There is a small scale restaurant on the 3rd or 4th floor (more like a kitchen) but across the street is a lovely local restaurant, The Commissioner's Grill and you will be in the heart of the city, close to other lovely restaurants like Henningway's.

What I think you need to understand is this, the options are limited and while City View and Heritage may not meet the expectations of some other travellers on trip advisor I think their expectation were set a bit too high.

If you do get a room at the new Hertigage building I think you will be please with the accomodation.

If you do decide to stay there please share your thoughts of the place with me.
