Travel Technology - new LCD: I'm feeling like a dork and not a geek...

So I upgraded my display... used to have an old NEC A900 19", it was just old & getting darker and darker...

I just bought a Viewsonic VX2235wm 22" WS (http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/xseries/vx2235wm/), it's really pretty and the color it excellent. It has a max/optimal/native resolution of 1680x1050. I currently run my desktop @ 1024x768 cause I'm half blind and it doesn't look that bad, but it is a bit stretched.

Of course my current intergrated SiS 651 doesn't support the native resolution so I'm trying to find a new video card that will. I don't seem to be able to find a card that will support the native resolution of 1680x1050.

I am probably being hampered by the fact my motherboard is older and would need to get an AGP 4X, 1.5V card. All the cards I look @ don't support 1680x1050, some have resolutions that are close but none spot on.

am I looking for something that doesn't exist? I've read that for this monitor ATI is bad, nVidia is good. I can't seem to find one that will fit the bill.
help!

Take your pick:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=Property&Subcategory=48&Description=&Type=&N=2010380048&srchInDesc=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=50&PropertyCodeValue=696%3A9639&PropertyCodeValue=696%3A9638&PropertyCodeValue=691%3A9630&PropertyCodeValue=691%3A9631

Any of them will be fine and are all under $50.

Download Powerstrip, which is an utility allowing you to define custom resolutions for just about any graphics card.

You'll want to have it run automatically when Windows starts up. Not having used it in a while, I forget where the option is, but it shouldn't be too hard to find.

P.S. try it before you pay for it, as some really old and underpowered cards may not go up to such a resolution.

Yechh! Integrated video pretty much universally stinks. However, you may find that your issue is resolved by loading the correct INF file for your monitor.

http://www.viewsonic.com/support/drivers/driver_information.cfm?category=1&formName=monitor&key=37

That might work.

Also, before you do that, try going into the Display Control Panel, click the Settings tab, then click Monitor. Uncheck the box that says "Hide Resolutions This Monitor Cannot Display". That may work as well.

note this is a very cool tool, thank you! It makes my old card very sufficient until the new one comes.
