The Caribbean - Nassau Questions

Dear Experts,
I'm heading to Nassau shortly for about 4 days. I'm not much interested in the resort scene or typical touristy stuff. I'd be much more interested in checking out local culture, natural beauty, etc. I've heard about the Fish Fry, but if anyone has other suggestions for the local or beautiful, I'd love to know of them.

Also, can one do NAS without a car or do we need to rent one -- we're pretty cool with public transit, but if a car is really much more desirable, I can do it.

Not so many Caribbean experts here. I know you're not on a cruise, but I would take myself over to cruisecritic.com. There are destination based forums there and a number of Nassau residents with good advice on how to enjoy the place on a short visit.

Thanks BamaVol - I'm not a cruise person, so I hadn't bothered looking at cruise sites, but places where locals help provide info is always helpful & desirable. :)
