Just received my new PC card and it says that I am now at that status forever. The card has my name and number on it, but no expiry date. Only been PC for a year and rented about 20 times in 06/07. Is this normal practice?
Same with me. It was going to be valid until further notice. No expiration date^ :) Dont think I made the 40 required, but I only rent top end models, Prestige, Luxury etc

I would guess this is a cost-cutting move to avoid having to send another card next year to those who requalify. I just qualified for PC this year and my card has no expiration date either. It actually makes some sense since the card doesn't get you anything at all, so there's no risk of having someone get something later that they're not entitled to (as opposed to airline status cards which get you, for example, lounge access).
This is the first time I've heard of rental car lifetime status. If the qualification criteria was clear I'd be tempted to come over from Avis (where I'm Chairman's).
I don't think it's status for life, just penny-wise bean counters. The card gets you nothing, your status is tied to your Hertz number, if your status goes down, sure you have the card, but the computer will always take precedence. If you re-qal, Hertz doesn't have to send you another card ;)
I don't know why they send the cards at all. I typically just take the free rental day coupon and dump the card in the trash.

I have never used one of the free day rental vouchers, my usual CDP numbers always give me significantly better rate than getting a free day using the voucher as you have to use the CDP number on the voucher. It's such a waste, I have a big stack of them at home.
I am also fed up to the teeth with the so called 'guaranteed upgrade'. I have been PC for years but recently discovered that there are only 5 'participating locations' within the whole of the UK!

In that case, they should charge you at the next lowest rate for the car you do get. That's what Manchester Airport do (although they are a participating location).

Yes, participating locations almost always upgrade me. I'm not really interested in a discounted price as I bill it all to expenses anyway, it just p!sses me off that there are only 5 locations in the UK (plus Marble Arch that I use almost weekly) that actually upgrade me regularly.
As someone who rents a car at least 3/4 days every week of the year, these little things like worthless vouchers irritate me.

Maybe we're talking about different coupons?
The one I mentioned is called "Earned Free Rental Day", and does not need to be combined with paid rentals. Good up to Premium (G) size. Saves me $80 every time we use one in NYC.
If you don't want yours, you can send them to me. :)

I only use a card when something is cancelled and I go to some one I do not use often. All my normal cards I know by heart.

I'm in the UK, it's possible that the certs. are different here, they have to be used with the CDP number that is written on them. They don't come us as pre-pay rates (which I never use anyway) but they are almost always significantly more expensive than my other CDP numbers. Plus you have to take CDW, theft protection etc which I do not need as I have insurance through Amex.
If anyone wants my vouchers, PM me your address and I'll send you the one I just received.

Same here, the card is useless, other than to provide the number, which I've never been asked for (only my name). And what's the mag stripe for, anyone ever had their card swiped?

In all seriousness, I need some extra 155046's, so if you have any please PM me. Don't want to go totally Coupon Connection here...but if folks really can't use these certs, please don't toss 'em in the circular file. Maybe I have some other types of (non-Hertz) certs that you can use.

Just to point out that Pres circle upgrades only apply B-C and C-D in the uk. I.e If you book a D you get a D and so on . Anything bigger on a D grp booking you have to pay for unless the location is sooo short on fleet that you get a nice upgrade.
Just a little tip to save a load of agro at the desk.:D
