I know this will sound incredibly naive, but I've learned the hard way that not all Star Alliance partners will check bags all the way through with all other partner airlines if more than one PNR is involved.

So....

To fly LAX - LHR on Air NZ and connect LHR - OSL on SAS, Air NZ cannot write a single ticket for me. I have to purchase a ticket from Air NZ and another from SAS.

If I fly Air NZ from LAX - LHR and connect to a separately ticketed SAS flight, will Air NZ interline my checked luggage -- check it all the way through to my final destination?

And the reverse: Will SAS interline my bags on an itinerary that begins on an SAS flight and connects to Air NZ?

Thanks in advance for any helpful input.

Assuming your connections are neither too short (below MCT if they were ticketed on the same ticket) nor too long (more than 24 hours), then bags should be able to be tagged through in both cases. You will need to show the onward ticket at check in.

Hi.

I have had several tickets from SVG-LHR-AKL-MEL and back which were issued by NZ in London. No problems there with SK and NZ together.
So I find it strange that they couldn`t fix you up all the way on one ticket.
I`m presuming you won`t have any problems interlining.....but then again I can`t be certain either.

Good luck though:)

Maybe the U.S. Air NZ presence is much smaller in the U.S. I, too, was surprised that they couldn't issue a single ticket that included a Star Alliance partner.

SAS should not be a problem if you ask nicely, assuming your connection at LHR is valid. Try to have at least 90 mins between flights to have some marginal and sufficient time for transfer security.
