Qantas Frequent Flyer - What are the chances?

My parents who are both QF NB will be flying home from HKG to SYD in September and pre-allocated seats 70J & 70K on booking (the two seats down the back of the plane).
It now so happens that I will be flying back on this same flight with them on the way home. I have independently booked my ticket on the QF website and with my new acquired QF SG status, have been allocated Seat 35H.
Will Qantas allow my parents to change their seats to 35J & 35K to sit next to me or is this exclusively blocked for elite FF members? I have just flown to LHR and sat in Seat 35H on QF 1 over and found it to be good because the crew seats in front never moved back all flight.

I don't think so; unless there is a passenger with OW status in the booking, the 1st few rows will show as blocked and will not be available for pre-selection.
You could always move such that you are all together elsewhere in the cabin

Couldn't he/she link the two/three PNR's together, and then call up Qantas to allocate some seats?
It's what I would be trying... although, I'm not sure if it would work, and whether the magical seat shifting fairies might change things around later...

Would rows 11 and 16 (in J) in 747-400 also be blocked?? Are exit rows assigned only at Airport - or do individuals with status get them prior to check-in?

row 16 is blocked though can be pre-selected by QF Platinum members; don't think row 11 is blocked

Anyone can get row 11.
Row 16 is available for pre-assignment by WPs only, not even other ow emeralds can get row 16 before check in. I've had success getting row 16 at check in but those flights weren't chokers.
11A and B are often blocked, but not 11J and K.

I've consistently got 11A pre-allocated. Can't be due to my sapphire status either as I've booked awards using QF points and QF refused to replace the low-status QF number with my AA number - and I've always pre-booked 11A before attempting at check in to get row 16.
It might vary from flight to flight depending on the load?

I have done stuff like this several time,as an SG and as a WP.
As an example, I had booked QF188 HKG-MEL on paid fares for for mrs serfty and I (PG & WP) and award for mini serfty and niece. On the A333 I was able to pre-allocate 23J/K for us and 24J/K for mini's.
Interestingly, IME 35H cannot be allocated to PS or "less" while 35J/K can.

Funny you should say this as on my recent trip to London, I was a PS at the time and was allocated Seat 35H on QF 1 from SYD/BKK/LHR and then again on QF 10 from LHR to SIN.
These seats were not requested by me, but rather allocated by Qantas automatically when the booking was made.
The real trick is to have 31D allocated on a 2-class 744 :p .

Booking was made in late November 2006 for travel in March 2007.
