Air New Zealand Air Points - upgrade LAX-AKL using UA miles??

i'm about to buy my tix for my annual trip to NZ in Aug. can anyone confirm the possibility of using UA miles to upgrade on the NZ LAX-AKL flight. does it make a difference if i buy the ticket via UA or NZ? thanks

not yet unfortunately , NZ seem to be lagging in joining the Star Upgrade programme possibly because they have invested so much into their new BP class that they don't want to be giving away too many seats - it is my understanding that eventually all Star carriers have to come on board the programme - but I wouldn't be surprised if they are the very last to do it

As the others have mention treyrox no you can't. When and if NZ does participate in the *A upgrade scheme you will need a Y/B fare (not sure what they will do about PE) and 60,000 MP miles for the RT. Best to save up for a 110,000 award
