oneworld - Advice for next year Carib/Euro getaway

Currently have 90,000 mi on AA, and by the looks of it I should be able to get and additional 90k for a total of 180,000 mi by the end of this year.

I have three weeks of vacation to burn for next year, so I am planning to do a Carib/Euro getaway with my friend.

My plan is this:
LAX-SFO-MIA-SXM-MAD//PRG-JFK-LAX

The question is this:
Would it make sense to pay out-of-pocket for the LAX-SFO-MIA and the JFK-LAX portion so that I can keep the MIA-SXM-MAD//PRG-JFK under the 10,000 mi threshold? And if so, what would be a good excuse to the AAgent on why I'd rather do it this way?

If we are talking about the oneworld award the open jaw in the middle will prevent you from returning to any location other than the point of departure (MIA).

Thanks, I didn't catch that one. In that case then, I should do a JFK-SXM-MAD//PRG-JFK oneworld award to keep it under 10,000 miles.

What would happen, hypothetically of course, if one booked a JFK-SXM-MAD//PRG-JFK award and routed the final bit PRG-LHR-LAX-JFK and somehow managed to miss the LAX-JFK segment, say?

Probably nothing, but if AA detected that it is not the first time one has pulled a fast one on them they WILL react, and put one's Aadvantage account in jail.

Actually, I really don't mind going to JFK as I have relative there. If the flight were PRG-LHR-LAX-JFK, I still would go on the LAX-JFK seg :)
