Just returned a car. Had again a 318i BMW.
When leaving a parking lot I crashed with the rear bumper in a pile of stones and dirt. It was not secured by any means and one couldn`t see it in advance.
The damage: on the left side multiple scratches at the lower part of the bumper, nothing too serious.

Now Hertz wants to charge me 358 Euro in damages. I know that a new bumper would cost aprox. 580 to 630 Euros.
I am not really willing to pay this rip-off amount just for them to repaint and/or fill minor scratches. They are def. not getting a new bumper the rep. said and I should agree to the amount mentioned above.

Any suggestions??

LDW covers this type of thing. Did you get the optional insurance?

If not, then you damaged it. Someone has to pay, and since they caught it, then you should pay for it.

The amount might be high, but not unreasonable to get a bumper repaired and repainted.

358 Euros for even a minor fix on a Beemer seems pretty reasonable. (And I have the costs for a Kansas bodyshop in mind - probably somewhat lower than the costs in most European countries.)

I mean, I sympathize when rental agencies make stuff up or grossly overcharge for repairs, but in this case it doesn't seem like Hertz is doing either.

sorry to say that i echo the above posts that the amount seems reasonable to have a bumper fixed. Without the protection of insurance then the bill is your responsibility.

Did you pay with a credit card that offers any kind of rental car coverage? If so, get them involved.

There is no such cover been involved. Even if I had purchased extra cover and the equiv. reduction, I still would be liable for up to 350,00 Euros.
CDW was not included, was a bit surprised to find that out later, as it always is with Avis.
