After just flying home yesterday on ZK-OJC from NAN-AKL the aircrafts cabin seemed to be a bad state drawing on the seat backs, some ife controlers had no face plates and arm rest are cracked and diss coloured.
Ive also been on ZK-OJM and ZK-OJG and those to seemed to be fine in side.
Also on a side note i see the zeal crew now have Zeal320/Airbus strings for there id cards.

Yeah, I've noticed that too on the A320s -- always random grime and pen marks on the back of seats. Which is strange, because most NZ aircraft seem pretty clean. (apart from the B1900s, but they're well old)
Perhaps the leather seats are less practical than they expected?

These planes might get used more often for SJ flights?
SJ probaly gets the rowdy tourist lots with all the kids in tow, not saying NZ dont get them.

Indeed that's what I recalled too. From the NZ fleet info (http://www.airnz.co.nz/aboutus/fleet/default.htm) the average age of Beech 1900D is 5 years, less than the ATR 72-500 (6 years), Saab 340 (19 years), 737-300 (9 years), 767-300 (11 years) and 747-400 (13 years).

I was on an A320 the other day and noticed the same thing. What was unusual for me, however, was that I was sitting down near the back - about the 2nd to last row actually. Generally lots of kids and filthy low-life folk with no frequent flyer status (like me now, :( ) fly down the back - maybe it's just the back of the planes that are in a tatty state. They always seem so clean up front... sigh, up front ;)
I've generally found the B1900s to be in good shape - perhaps stewardo was referring to the Saabs?

Not sure if rows makes a differnt ive been in 14A, 16F, 6A, 4F they all seemed to be damged. Even before the 767 refits they where in way better sate.

I was in 9A today on an A320 WLG - MEL ( I am not sure which plane), but the back of 8A had been scribbled on with biro, as had 8B.
Little more than vandalism or graffiti, I am not too sure what the airline can do about it :td:
My apartment block in WLG had a graffiti artist? get to work on it four or five weeks ago and make a major mess, but the prick got caught, and is up for reparation :D

Not sure if this says more about the airline or the customers it flies. Don't they teach manners and civility down there? Makes me apprehensive about taking one of these back to SYD in a couple of months time...

You should definitely be apprehensive -- and obviously don't wear an expensive watch, or carry any valuables onboard. I'm constantly worried for my personal safety while on Air NZ aircraft.
And yes - I think it must have been the ancient Saabs I was thinking of. I'm never too good at telling the difference between those smaller aircraft - apart from loving the view out of the front on the B1900.

Quite right stewardo... he better watch himself... ..and leave the little woman at home...
Must be hard coming from a place with a complete absence of graffiti, and where everyone is perfectly polite all the time..... like North America..:D

Well how else can someone "tag" because due to the liquids and aerosol ban you cannot bring in the usual spraypaint cans.:p
On my few trips on the A320 from Fiji, Rarotonga and NZ, I have to agree.
Even a year or so ago these planes were quite "dirty"
I think the A320's get used and abused and generally not cared for or cleaned as much and they are primiarly used on the leisure routes.
As a result the "type" of passengers that fly on these, wouldn't have as much respect for others property. Sorry to make wide sweeping generalizations, but as others have said 744, 777, 767's seem to be much cleaner than the A320's.
I also think the leather seats, while longer lasting etc, tend to be easier to use a pen and make pretty lines all over....
