I know the Tiger Palast and I think Holbein's is way way better:

Excellent food and service, not to mention it is in the Art Museum building.

I will give you some of the ones I have tried:

Dorade, Carl-von-Noorden-Patz 5 in Sachsenhausen:
A very good Greek seefood (!) restaurant. Pretty unique in Germany

Francais, Frankfurter Hof, Kaiserplatz, Stadtmitte
Very good (and expensive) French

Surf'N Turf, Grüneburgweg 95, Westend
For sure the best steaks in town

Rama V, Vilbeler Str. 32, Stadtmitte
One of best Thai places I know outside Thailand.

What about authentic German fare that doesn't break the bank? Any suggestions? TIA.

I fully agree to the Sachsenhausen thing. Plenty of beer hall type of restaurants (but with apple wine). Might not be appropriate for a Californian stomach, though. Frankfurt food is not really a kind of gourmet food. This is one of the reasons my Frankfurt Colleagues and I frequently use ethnic restaurants. If you like hearty food you will be all right. By the way: There are some nice (for sure not outstanding) restaurants on the "Römer", the historical center of Frankfurt.

How about a great/good Munich restaurant that doesn't cost more than $150 plus tip? Thanks in advance!

Again the question:
What kind of food?
And 150 Dollars or Euro?
And per person or for a party of eight?

Thanks for the suggestions. I eat pretty much everything, so I don't mind trying some "local" foods. I know Frankfurt is not known for its cuisine (like Paris is), but I still want to try out whatever the best it has to offer.

Silk in the Cocoon Club has not been mentioned yet.

The article does not mention the chef, Mario Lohringer, an Austrian who earned his laurels in top restaurants including Danube in NYC.
