Hertz - Booked Shelby GT-H (or similar?!) from Manhattan

Hi,

I recently booked a Shelby GT-H from New York Midtown East 40th (between 2nd and 3rd) for 20-21th October. But, at my reservation confirmation it says Hertz Shelby GTH - FUN Compact Special or Similar. Does that mean I might not get GT-H but a similar sports car?

At that Hertz location there are GT-H and Hummer H3 in FUN collection, but I certainly don't want that Hummer... Any idea why it says Similar in that confirmation?

Also, what do you think about the situation of Shelbys in October, do they still have to have one there because I have already rented it or can they sell their cars and offer me a Hummer or some other car?

I appreciate all answers ^

Cheers,
Hannu

In a similar position for a booking I have in June. I suspect that by October there will be the new GT-H convertibles, so maybe you'll end up in one of those instead. Our booking for June (SFO) does not have the 'or similar' part, so don't know if that is new.

What rate did you get? I'm on ~£1400 ($2800) for two and a half weeks.

Well, I don't really mind if it would be a GT-H convertible... :)

I booked it for two days with $471, but it's in Manhattan so it must be one of the highest rates there is. I have to contact Hertz and ask about that "Or similar" part to make sure I'll get what I want. Thanks for your reply!

Book through the US site, it should be about $599 a week

Or a bit less with the Priority Club codes. - $509. Shame though that the rate doesn't include any CDW etc. - adds about $50/day for insurance which is $900 over the trip. Still slightly cheaper but probably not enough to make it worth cancelling the prepay and doing it again though, unfortunately.

I'm trying to sort out the insurance separately through www.insurance4carhire.co.uk but it seems to exclude use for cars of value >$90,000, which I suspect the GT-H might be.

Looked also at getting one of the 'premium' UK credit cards (AMEX Plat) but it has a similar exclusion.

Only consolation is that the rate guarantee is on the US$ price, and with the dollar sliding against the £ I should get a few quid back as a result.

ROFL. Try half that price.

yeah, basically just a Mustang GT with a body kit.

However they were auctioning them for quite a bit... Tough call. Insurance shouldnt be $50 through Hertz though... -take the liability, cdw and decline super cdw

Well, picked up yesterday from SFO, a brand new GTH convertible. <10 miles on the clock :D :D
Had the standard coupe booked and they offered me a rate of $80/day to 'upgrade' to the convertible, but I declined as would be happy with the coupe and the extra $$ for an 18 day rental wouldn't be too good.

Then offered 'a deal' and again turned it down. So went downstairs and there it was - brand new and on display - it had arrived 2 days earlier but still to be used by anyone.

So if they offer you an upgrade, don't bother 'cos you'll maybe get it anyway.
