China - Switch to FC award when only part of flight available?

We have two tickets LAX-NRT-SIN on SQ 11, reverse itinerary on SQ12. one seat in first, one in business. The NRT-SIN-NRT legs are unavailable (even for purchase) in F. We'd be happy to surrender the additional miles JUST for the LAX-NRT portions, where KVS shows 4 in FC.

Has anyone had experience with having SQ agree to 'upgrade' the trans-Pacific portion (of course, we'd be happy to pay the additional miles) then allow a retreat to C for the ex-NRT leg, and vv. on return?

Delta (issuer of the tix) says not possible...but i've learned the FTers often know how to do the impossible!

I'd put quite a bit of stock in their "opinion" since they're the entity that's responsible for paying SQ for your tickets. In any case, you should post in the DL forum, assuming this thread doesn't get moved there.
