Zoom to launch cut-price Gatwick to New York flights
NewyorkcentralparkalamyZoom Airlines is to begin daily flights between London Gatwick and New York John F Kennedy (JFK) in June, with tickets priced from £129 one-way (including taxes and charges).
Beginning on June 21, the flights promise to usher in a new era of budget transatlantic travel. Ottowa-based airline Zoom’s cheaper tickets will provide an alternative to BA and Virgin Atlantic, who "have been fleecing passengers for too long".
Flights will operate from Gatwick's South Terminal, leaving every lunchtime and arriving at JFK's Terminal 4 in the early afternoon. Return flights will leave the Big Apple in the early evening, arriving back in Gatwick at around 6am the next day.
Five flights per week will operate direct to New York, with two off-peak services operating via Bermuda.
Zoom is promising year-round low fares, flexibility of travel, no restrictions such as the need to stay a Saturday night, and an affordable premium economy class. Tickets can be booked at www.flyzoom.com or by phoning 0870 240 0555.
Zoom's John Boyle said: "You cannot put a sheaf of paper between the prices charged by BA, Virgin and the American carriers on the New York route and it is high time that passengers had a better deal. We are offering savings of up to 70 per cent on these flights."
The company is also planning to begin services from Gatwick to Canada and Bermuda.
