American Express Membership Rewards - Can't get Express Pay for SPG Amex on "Old Database"?

I know there is a thread about SPG Amex and Express Pay here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=617488&highlight=express+pay). Since that has degenerated into a discussion of the merits of RFID, and this is a somewhat different issue, I decided to start a new thread.

After reading about the Express Pay on SPG Amex here, I noted that my new card did not have the symbol, nor a visible chip. Called to get one with, they said "no prob". When I got the new card, it was the same. Called back, got "we can't add that feature to cards on the "old" database. Basically, I'd have to cancel the card and get a new one (new number) on the "new" database...but I can get a keyfob type linked to the same account.

Anyone have the same or different experiences? (My card is from 2004).

Interesting... I just looked at the back of my new (red) SPG card and there is no ExpressPay logo. My new Blue card has one.

I'll have to call and find out if I can get one, my SPG card was started in 2003.

Curiously, what is your card revision (upper-right corner of the back of the card)? I received a new red card with ExpressPay a couple weeks ago, and it reads "USA10.06", which I assume means it's the October 2006 version.
