American Express Membership Rewards - Spg Amex

I have just drop my citi AA card for the SPG, better deal. Can you tell me if there is any double points for any purchases. I still have my AMEX Plat and this gives me serveral double points options?

If there are double points for SPG I have not seen any.

Also, I was under the impression that double points for plat were done with?

You may also want to consider keeping a non-Amex card as a back-up for the places that don't take Amex. If you want to stay in the AA fold, the Citi Bronze is a good deal- no fee and 1mile/$2 spent. Since I spend on the Amex whenever possible, the 2/1 doesn't hurt, and the fee is better :)

If you want a no-fee card, there are also other 1/2 mile per dollar cards for different airlines. A few people also seem to like ThankYou and Merrill+. If your spending will be minimal, you could also consider a cash-back type of card like Citi Dividend.

When I can't use my Amex cards (fi, San Diego assessor's office won't take Amex for property taxes) I either use my Citi AAdvantage card or my new fave--the BofA Hawaiian Air card. So far I've only used those miles on Hawaiian Airlines, but they can also be used for tickets on Virgin (and Northwest too)

You get 10000 HA miles when you get the card and 2000 each year when you renew (it used to be 5000) Since it's only 15K to upgrade a coach ticket to First from San Diego to Hawaii the awards add up fast.

Plus holders of HA credit cards can transfer miles to other members online for free (I don't know of other airlines that allow that)

Only other way to earn double points on the SPG AMEX card is via charges at Starwood properties as pointed out in the SPG AMEX terms and this is not a promotion but a benefit of the card.
