How long does it take for the points to post into spg account after charging something on the SPG Amex?

Points post once per month, a couple days after the closing date of the credit card. Typically Starwood adds the points to your balance on one day and statement entry appears the following day.
If you have a new credit card and the points have not appeared within three (business) days after the closing date it is probable that American Express has created a new SPG account. Best solution is to call Amex, write down the SPG account number, then ask Starwood to "merge" it with your existing account. Do not ask Amex to fix, it takes longer and they may do it backwards.
