If so, any idea how many Voyager points? Their site will not show the table unless you have the points already (unless I am doing it wrong). Would like to use points for an upgrade, ideally.
And can you buy Voyager points?
(I have one biz award seat on SAA that I got last year via Delta, who is no longer partnered with them to sell tickets)

From the Voyager guide (also available on the SAA website):
Travel between Southern Africa and North America: Business Milage keeper (books in I): 150 000 miles, Business any day (books in J): 300 000 miles
Upgrade is 80 000 miles (books in I, but beware that the economy ticket must be in Y, B, M or K).
All the above for return flights, one-way is half of this.
Buying miles: yes, up to 50% of the award can be on purchased miles. They cost ZAR 250 per unit of 1000 miles.
Good luck with getting a business class award on the SA-US route though. They seem to be extremely difficult to get.
