If you just added the bank account to the online billpay, you can't pay the bill until the end of your billing cycle for security reasons.

If your bank has a "BillPayer" service (and has electronic relationships with vendors) you could try that. I actually prefer my bank's version to pay my CC bills over the online pay of my CCs webpages, and the payments credit almost as quickly.

I usually add a card into my bank's BP service as soon as I get it, and will make a token payment even before I use the card (mostly to see if it'll take).

Hmm,
All my current CC are chase, with chase bank account, so transfering payments is easy. Amex seems to be different though. Ill try making a small payment, see if it goes through and if it does, ill go from there.

I made one advance payment on my Amex bill, and now I want to make another one, but it wont let me either. Can you call in to make the payment?

I have Chase for my checking account and thats how I always pay my Amex. I never use the Amex payment version. Just select bill pay on Chase site. You'll have to complete all the payee information to set AMEX up as a new bill to pay, but then you just send it and the money is sent via EFT to AMEX, no problem.

I use Chase too and it is a one day turn around. You could pay on it everyday if you wanted and no fees. I think if you call to do it they charge you a fee and it takes much longer.
