Budget Travel - Cheapest way to get to Italy from NYC

So I go to Italy every year around September time, Im new to this forum and am not as savvy as most of you re best time of year or airline to fly to get best deals etc.
I want to fly from New York to Naples Italy for around a week (possibly with a layover in London or Iceland) and am flexible what my departure date is. I think there are new direct routes to Naples, Italy but not sure. I tend to go with BA stop over in London for a day then proceed to Naples but this eats in to my vacation time, a direct flight would be preferred. Any tips?

I can't help with this question,but I'm sure someone will come up with advice.
Generally,the better Sept. fares (at least for me) show up late (August).
It's a very popular time of the year in Italy.

As jabez mentioned, fares should look better in a few months then they do now. Generally AZ doesn't charge any more for a flight connecting to another Italian city than they do for a flight to a hub (i.e. JFK-MXP-Naples won't cost any more than JFK-MXP, and it might even cost less).

With BA I believe you'll generally have to change airports in London, so you might as well stay over a night if you go that route.

DL is launching a new service JFK-Pisa this summer, but I don't see connections to Naples; just to Rome, Sorrento, Palermo, Cagliari...

Has nayone herd of them - they seem to be a low cost airline to naples. For septmeber Im seeing flights aroun $700. Are they any good? I'd only need an economy ticket.

Silly advice. Everyone knows it is too far to swim. But you could row!!! :D

Seriously, find the cheapest trans-Atlantic flight to anywhere and then price a low cost intra-Europe flight. Just remember, you may end up changing airports and that can be expensive unless low cost bus transportation is available. Also, baggage limits are very low on some LCCs.

They fly to madrid. Air Europa flies to Bologna (and I think some other cities).

Zoom are flying from jfk -lgw. www.flyzoom.They currently have a return fare
of $400 return (inc taxes). BA flies from LGW to Naples for about £110 ($200)
Together this is about $600.( I'm wondering if a travel agent could marry the two together and get you a cheaper fare due to less taxes?)
I checked the Gatwick airport site and the following airlines also fly to Naples from LGW
