We are cancelling our Amex Gold MR plus card - do not want to pay annual fee! We signed up for SPG Amex and Costco True Earnings Amex, decided after much study from all the informative posts on this great website! Okay, I'll get to the point...
Obviously, we need to transfer all points out soon. Previous recent posts reported no bonuses to any airline programs at this time. Here are the facts:
160,000 points available for transfer
airline programs preferred
we live in Portland, OR
we want to go to Hawaii, Carribean (no Jamaica, Dominican Republic), Belize, or Europe
we also travel to Las Vegas, Phoenix, or Southern Cal once or twice a year (using Alaska Airlines)
we want to go economy class
So I first looked at Hawaiian Airlines as they go nonstop to Hawaii from PDX and have fairly good availability. But, if we decide not to go to Hawaii, there program does not have many options (just Northwest and Virgin, as Alaska is dropping out of program). Continental looks better than Delta on overall award seat availability from here. Both CO and DL are partnered with Alaska. The other thought is Virgin Atlantic as they are partners with Continental and Delta and Hawaiian (although its 50,000 miles to go to Hawaii through Virgin program, which is a bit steep).
Questions:
Is my impression of CO award seat availablity (vs Delta) correct?
Does Virgin have good partner award availability?
Are there any future airline partners with Hawaiian that my be rumored?
Any other options I may be overlooking?
Sorry for the longwinded post. Thanks in advance for your advice.
